Hey ladies, DH and I are pretty frustrated and I wanted some opinions. I am over 35 weeks pregnant and for the last several months we had decided on the name Ivy for our little girl. It was going to be either Ivy Estelle or Ivy Catherine (we weren't sure on MN yet). Well we didn't tell anyone because we wanted the name to be a surprise. So now with the latest Blue Ivy/Ivy Blue/Beyonce baby name thing we are starting to second guess the name. We were choosing the name because it was an older name that was not overly trendy or popular to my knowledge (it was in the 300's on social security index I believe). Well I am fearful that the name will 1) skyrocket in the next year and 2) since we hadn't mentioned the name before I don't people thinking that we got the name because of beyonce/jay-z since I am due to deliver within the next month. Just let me know if you think we are over-reacting or if we should maybe start to consider other names.
Re: Brutal honesty please...
Agreed.

This. Ivy is a beautiful name (with both the mn's you've chosen). You definitely run the risk of this becoming more popular now that Beyonce used it and will probably have to laugh off a few Beyonce questions here and there just because of timing...but quite honestly no mom has any guarantee that some famous person isn't going to mess with their baby names for better or worse at ANY point in their child's life. It does suck that the timing is so close but IMHO if you have had your heart set on the name I say go for it!

Missing our little bean. Our hearts broke when yours stopped beating.
BFP 1/3/2012. Please God...let this be our take home baby!
I'm so sorry! this is my nightmare - that Jessica Simpson has a girl and uses the name we've chosen. I don't think it's a deal breaker but... I would consider other names. I love Iris which is similar. Honestly, I don't think anyone will think you're naming your baby Ivy because of them. GL deciding!
I agree with this. I think that the fact that the child's name is BLUE will grab more attention than the Ivy part. Also, they only gave her Ivy because of the roman numerals IV (eyeroll). It's a beautiful name and I think you should still use it.
Agreed. I think Ivy will climb up because old fashioned named are gaining in popularity, not really because of Beyonce. However, I don't think Ivy is going to be the next Sophia, either. It is a beautiful name, and OF COURSE the women on this blog will say it reminds them on her, because we're the only ones watching E news. Most people of the world don't give a you know what about stinkin' Beyonce's baby. Your own grandma will probably say, "Beyonce who?" Ha.
Besides, the baby's name is Blue, not Ivy. Use it!!!
Agreed. It's a real name, not something made-up, so people aren't going to automatically think of the Beyonce thing.
Do you have any other contenders you like? I would absolutely not name my child Ivy now. Beyonce is so hugely popular that I think the name is a) about to skyrocket and b) going to be associated with her kid for many years.
FWIW, I think Estelle Catherine is lovely.

Beyonce's baby is Blue Ivy, I guess? So hopefully, all the tabloids will start calling her Blue, and Ivy will be forgotten?
It really sucks, though... I'm so sorry...
Proud mother of two breech babies:)
This! It is such a bummer that people will ask you if that is why you chose the name... but I guess people who know you are the ones who matter and they'll know it isn't why you chose it. If you and H love it, don't change it because of some celebrity.
This. I think it will become more popular, but if you love it, use it. If not, what about Isla (Eye-luh)?
However, I'd say use it. If you love it, use it. And Ivy is only her middle name, so you've got more room with it.
Ivy Catherine is lovely.
"A new baby is like the beginning of all things--wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities."
Angelina Jolie is a huge celebrity and named her daughter Vivienne.
I say use Ivy. It's beautiful and you chose it before Beyonce had her child. Ivy Catherine is lovely. And I'd learn to say, "well, Beyonce must have taken a peek at our hush-hush name list." Name her Ivy and OWN it.
Not to mention, supposedly, they choce Ivy because it's "IV" for the number four, not because it's Ivy. They're the dumb-dumbs.

I think this is really good advice. People may make the connection now, but in a year it wont be relevant anymore. Ivy is a beautiful name. Don't ever let anything get in the way of your happiness.

I like science. Here's proof.
I just wanted to thank all of you for your help. We have talked about it and have decided to not rule it out entirely but to also be open to talking about other names and maybe having a second option. It will probably be a game-time decision. ;-) It is just that we have gotten so used to calling her "Ivy" already that I feel sad changing it! Also to whoever suggested Isla, thank you! I have liked that name for awhile and DH thinks it is ok too, so we may throw that in as another option.
