Success after IF

baby movement in utero

do you guys remember (or can pipe in if you're 2-3rd tri now) how much your bab(ies) moved in utero?  It seems to be feast or famine these days... either they're rolling and fighting and busy busy (typically in the evening for me) or I'm freaking out, poking at them or getting out the doppler. I wish it was more consistent, both to eliminate worry, but well, I love love love it!

Re: baby movement in utero

  • It was the same with me.  Some days they would be going crazy, others they would be quieter.  Several time I freaked because I was SURE that one baby was moving a ton and the other wasn't at all -- I would have all movement on one side.  Once I even went in because I was so nervous, and their positioning was completely different than I thought it was, with feet together on one side.  After that I relaxed a ton.  ;)

  • Mine is pretty hit or miss, but maybe b/c of an anterior placenta. I refuse to get out of bed in the mornings until I feel at least one kick for reassurance, lol. Mostly it's random rolls, and alternating low/high kicks with some hiccups thrown in. Probably feel movement 10-15x/day, usually after position changes or meals, but definitely not a party up in there! I just wish I could tell if he's still breech or not ;)
  • I was the exact same way. Some days they would move like craz, other days they were quiet. The Doppler was a life saver!

  • Julia moved all the time, she was a very active baby (as she is now an active 4 y/o). As you know Cora didn't move all that much. Every time I had a BPP the nurses gave me snacks and juice to get her moving. She was and IS very mellow. She had her active times of the day, and was pretty consistent. I would watch for changes maybe if possible, like if they or one is always active around suppertime, then it slowed way down to maybe check a hb. I also would drink some juice or pop if I didn't feel movement for awhile. They're possibly getting into their nap routines a bit more now. But you could've caught me often poking at my belly to get the baby moving!

  • Movement we hit or miss with Riley till abotu 26 or 28 weeks. I think that is normal, and one of the reasons we kept the doppler for so long.
  • Elena was the same way.  My MW assured me over and over and over (since I freaked at about every appt.) that she must just be facing in most of the time where I couldn't feel it as much.  It wasn't unheard of for me to go a day feeling her not at all or just once. :/

  • Doing kick counts gave me anxiety because Carina would never move as much as she was supposed to in the alloted time. She always moved after a meal or a drink though so that reassured me.

  • The doppler was my best friend!  But, I had an anterior placenta, so, there were just times when I couldn't feel her.  I'd be watching her kicking on ultrasound and feel nothing.  But, I LOVED feeling her kick and it scared the hell out of me when I couldn't feel anything.

Also, that 10 movements in an hour thing meant nothing to me.  When I did feel her, it would be like 20 kicks/hits in 10 seconds and then feel nothing for hours and hours.

  • My LO moves like crazy, almost to the point where I plan to ask my doc at my next appt if this is normal. Lol.

Seriously though, it could be the position of your two that may inhibit your feeling a lack of kicks/punches, but I know you knew that. ha.

  • This is the same for me.  There are HOURS and HOURS that go by where I feel absolutely nothing and then I think she's having a seizure because the movement is so much and so fast for so long.  The doctors tell me to just do kick counts once per day at this point and to not worry about frequency of movement.

  • I was feeling my DS move all the time by this stage. This one, not so. She went all day yesterday with nothing and then I felt only a few thumps at night. I want to give my doppler to my IRL PAIF friend at some point, but I am so not ready yet! I need that thing!

  • I feel this baby soooo much less than I did Garrison.  Some of it is certainly my anterior placenta but I remember Garrison being so active almost every hour of the day (but my memory could be off and maybe I'm just remembering later on than I think??) I have used my doppler at least a couple times each week lately and I had definitely stopped using it by now with G.

  • I went in when I was pregnant with Penny because I couldn't get her to move one night and into the next morning.  Not a bath, not eating, not walking, not drinking, not laying down...NOTHING I did could get her to move.

When I got to L&D, they took me to the back room (not a good sign).  But as soon as they put the icy cold gel on my stomach she moved.  After that if I couldn't get her to move, I added "super cold cloth on stomach" to my repertoire of tricks.

Both of my babies moved around all day long, so when they didn't move it freaked me out.

  • It's pretty much the same for me too.  Lots of movement in the evening, not so much during the day.  Unless of course I'm in the middle of a meeting or assignment, then the belly goes nuts.

  • DD was the same way she'd be very busy for a bit then completely still and I'd use the Doppler to check on her.

    I think it's pretty normal.

  • Some days I feel lher a lot , others not so much. Yesterday not at all or this mornign so of course I'm worried. The movements are not really kicks etiehr but rolling feelings and can be subtle so I can worry about that too and I do not have an anterior placenta like I did with the boys.  I really only feel her when I am sitting donw too.  I try to reasuure myself that I feel her at least a couple times a day..all is good!

  • It was just as you described for me too. Some days were quieter than others, which prompted the freak outs, followed by a doppler session. Oh, and the eating something sweet, drinking something cold never worked for me.

  • One of the twins is consistent, the other isn't.  Yesterday I was totally stressing about it...then twin B started picking up a little in the evening.  It's hard to tell who is where and when I'm even feeling them separately...could be the same one.  I feel your worry.

  • Griffin didn't move much. He freaked me out all the time, which is why I kept my dopler until he was born. And his movements became even rarer as pregnancy progressed. My OB assured me that with less room in there, he wasn't going to move as much.

S2 moved around a ton. Kid rocked out.

So really... no rhyme/reason here. To each their own.

  • Ellie (as I recall..it's been a while!) was not a big mover. But, her being my first, I thought it was normal, and it's only in retrospect that I really believe something was going on (she was also born 6 weeks early, in distress, and IUGR). I used to try and do kick counts, but had a really hard time getting to the # within the time frame. Bea was a mover and a shaker. I started feeling her around 14 weeks, and she just got stronger and more active from there. She also had very clear sleeping/waking patterns. But both my girls were really consistent - Ellie just never moved much and Bea never stopped much lol

  • oh I feel SOOO much better. lol. I think I remember Ava just moving so much (when in reality, it was likely same same) and thought this should be the same, times two. lol.  Don't get me wrong, when they both get going and get frisky, it's a flat out "aliens in 'me belly" session, omg, so weird. But that just seems to happen less than I thought it should right now. I'm sure my 'tood will change in a few weeks haha. THX!

  • I had a long answer written out.  :(  C did not move a ton.  I felt him first move at 16 weeks but he never progressed to big sweeping movements.  It was low rumbling ad hiccups for the duration which was NOT good for my peace of mind.  And I didn't have a doppler.  He had very little fluid and was wrapped up in his cord in such a way that his movement was limited.  I am sort of sad I missed out on the aliens in my belly thing.
