It's more fingers than are on one hand. Gets too confusing when you have to add another hand in the mix.

  • I learned earlier this year on another, unrelated forum that a lot of people equate politeness with dishonesty. People seem to take the quote from Cordelia Chase on Buffy the Vampire Slayer very seriously: "Tact is just not saying true stuff. I'll pass." This may not be the case with people on this particular board, but it is something to take into consideration. Different strokes for different folks, and all.

Beyond that, everyone is entitled to their opinion, just as you are entitled to disagree with someone's method of expressing it. The crux of the issue is how you deal with it personally. Me? I tend to pick and choose my battles very carefully, simply because I have a very busy schedule, and can't spare a lot of time for anything that isn't already penciled in. ;)

the best thing to do to really get yourself laughing is to post something just to irritate all the psychos on this message board.

The maturity level is strong with this one.

Salt can we be friends?  I think I love you.

Bonus points for the Buffy reference.

    Ditto that! Love Buffy.

  • I've been an active member of The Knot and The Nest and now (to an extent) The Bump, and I have to say that despite the raging hormones we're experiencing over here, the snark quotient is almost 100% lower than what you'll find on those sister sites IMO. What a relief!

My schedule doesn't permit me to be around that often, but I've only seen a couple threads containing what could be considered legitimately "snarky" replies on here. And they were in response to some situations where the person posting really did need a real wakeup call unless she wanted to get herself into a whole new level of trouble.

That said, I don't mind at all when I see someone post a question that has already been asked numerous times. I know what it's like to not have the time to scroll through past posts or use the search function, which rarely works properly anyway. Also, when it comes to research, while books and websites are nice, what's even nicer is to be able to have responses from currently pregnant women who are experiencing the same things you have questions about right now. Even if I have a doctor's appointment later in the day I might come on here and ask a question that I will also end up asking my doctor as well, simply because the type of response I will get here will be more candid and will be framed in a way I can really relate to.

I've read soooo many posts about people talking about strange feelings under their ribcage and I'm happy to respond to as many of them as I can because I've experienced that puzzling feeling and I want to let people know they're undergoing something perfectly normal, etc. I like being on this site both because I want to be helped and because I want to help.

Again however, once in awhile there's just going to be someone who makes the majority of women on here want to say something along the lines of, "What are you thinking?" And even if that visceral response hurts the poster's feelings, in the long run it should help them because a sugarcoated response is not going to snap them out of a detrimental attitude or idea.

Baby Birthday Ticker TickerYou'd better believe I have this framed.

My family is a Foreign Service family. Families like mine are posted in every corner of the globe. We live our lives away from family, friends and the conviences and comforts of home. We often live and work in dangerous places among those that misunderstand our intentions and purposes. Sometimes members of our ranks sacrifice our lives to further diplomacy.  Please remember that we serve too. And I'm always open to questions.

  • I wish the OP could see what these boards were like my first time around when I was pregnant with DS... SO much calmer and so much less snark now. They would have eaten most of these posters alive! I think about two years ago the snarkiest ones left in protest.

And the age old Bump question - Aren't these boards for support? Depends on the poster. Some are here just to vent and for entertainment. No one is right or wrong and you can't make people use them how you want them to.
