Vinegar and hard water?

Can I use vinegar to strip our diapers if we have hard water? Its not hard enough to need a water softener... We have ammonia problems and blue dawn stripping didn't work. And if so how much and what part of our wash?

Our wash routine is cold rinse, hot wash 2 Dropps packs, 2 cold rinses. We have to switch detergents soon since Target doesn't stock it anymore.

I read somewhere that vinegar with hard water makes it worse, but that could be incorrect. The only thing that solves my ammonia problem is bleach. If it's your inserts, you can boil them for a few minutes. Or, put 1/4 C bleach in your washer with the water, swish it around, add the diapers, and do a hot wash as usual.
