Trouble TTC

1st inject. IUI likely cancelled due to cysts

I went for my baseline US today to start our 4th IUI but 1st one with injects. The nurse found 3 cysts, one quite large (measuring 46mm) and was a lot bigger than my actual ovary. Unfortunately the nurse was kind of a dud and I had to pull info from her..I asked her if the cycle will be cancelled. She said most likely but the final call will be made once my BW comes back and they get my estrogen levels and talk to the Dr.

Anyone else have experience with cysts...last month they said there was  alittle one and it would likely go away and there was nothing to worry about as long as it was monitored. The nurse told me they would probably cancel the cycle, the cysts would likely shrink and I should be good to go next month.

All this kind of scares me and makes me second guess our decision to go to injects...the plan was gonal f + ovidrel and IUI this cycle and if that didn't work the dr told us we should seriously have the IVF talk.

  • I don't have any experience with cysts but I wanted to say that I am sorry for the disappointing news.  I hope those cysts go away quickly!

  • I've only had one experience with a cyst, and it was a residual cyst after my lap surgery, and too small to affect my cycle, so I'm no help there.  I'm sorry for the disappointing news, and I hope that the cysts disappear quickly!

  • Yeah I have alot of history with cycles cancelled due to cysts. We tried four months in a row from Aug to Dec to move forward with treatment(Follistim/IUI) and couldn't because of the cysts. 46mm is quite large, they were kind of worried about my 22mm cyst that I had in November. (I had two smaller ones also, a 14mm, and a 12mm). The nurse said if anything is above a 9 it gets cancelled, so just prepare yourself for that. Even though its frustrating, its a good thing because it can do serious damage moving forward!

I hope you can get this resolved and move forward with whatever decision you make!

  • I'm currently on a forced rest cycle due to cysts. This will be the 2nd time I've had to sit out because of cysts.

The first time, I had done 2 unmonitored Clomid cycles and begged to be monitored for my 3rd cycle, which is when they discovered a huge 55mm cyst. I did birth control for a month and it had only shrunk to 35mm so my RE agreed to aspirate (drain) it so I could cycle that month.

This month I went in for my baseline u/s and the nurse said I had a few residual cysts. She said she felt they were small enough to cycle, but it would depend on my blood work. B/w showed my E2 was over 200, which means the cysts were producing estrogen, and my RE doesn't like to start a new cycle until its under 60. She also said after getting my b/w back, she re-examined my u/s pics and one of the cysts looks like a corpus luteum cyst. So I'm back on bcps and hopefully they'll be gone by next month.

  • Thanks for the responses. I got word that the cycle is cancelled. The nurse didn't say much to me about the cysts. I'm a little concerned about the size of it. She told me to call back on CD 1 next month and I'll come in for a baseline to see if it shrunk and if it didn't what they need to do. But no BCP or anything..just monitoring

I need to call back tomorrow...I do still have a couple questions..like do we need to TTA this month etc.

     Thanks again!

  • i had a cyst that was 28 and it resolved on its own in one month.

Unfortunately, it was the month we were going to try our first IUI, so i get how frustrating it can be!

for me, the month my cyst resolved i had a longer cycle and got a very weak LH surge (i usually have a very strong surge at day 14 or 15 like clockwork...). so while we tried with ti, i wasn't really holding much hope in that month.

just keep repeating the following: "cyst(s) resolve thyself!"

hopefully it does the trick! (for me it just felt good to say it to get all my anger out!)
