TTC

Hey everyone!

Has anyone here had success with at home insemination with frozen donor sperm? Do you have any tips or success stories? We are TTC at home one time each cycle ( I am very regular) and are using pre seed as I don't have a lot of ewcm. We plan on trying 6x at home before we consider any other options (inseminations at the doctor) as it is more personal and less expensive. I'm just looking for any positive success stories or tips for at home insemination. I'm working closely with my gyno and she's given me all of her tips but I'd love to hear from anyone who's been through it themselves!

  • I also wanted to wish you good luck though I can't offer any advice on the at-home insems.  I go to a midwife practice for IUIs; my insurance covers the procedures in full so it's technically cheaper for us than at-home (since the success rate is higher and I have to pay for the sperm either way).  There are women on here who have conceived via at-home insemination and I'm sure they'll chime in but the board tends to be quieter on the weekends so it might take a day or two.

Welcome and feel free to stick around -- there are a lot of women here who are also TTC.

    Married my wife 8/2007 ~ TTC #1 since 7/2011
    9 IUIs = 9 BFNs
IVF October 2012: 22 eggs retrieved, 17 fertilized, 5 frozen
    ET #1: 1 blast = BFP; Blighted ovum discovered at 7w5d; D&E
    FET #1: 1 blast = BFP; Missed m/c discovered at 9w5d; D&E
Karyotyping: normal ~ RPL Testing: normal ~ Hysteroscopy: normal
    FET #2: 1 blast transferred 10/25; BFP 10/31!
    EDD 7/13/14 ~ Induced at 37w4d due to pre-eclampsia ~ Born on 6/28/14
    *Everyone welcome*

  • We conceived at home, but using a known donor, so a somewhat different story. One general tips that I learned throughout our experience that I wish I'd known all along (we conceived on cycle 3)  was to be sure to use a reliable ovulation predictor each month, even if you're very regular.  It is common for the body to sense stress during the first month of trying (even if you don't feel it yourself), which can cause your ovulation to be late.  This happened to us, we didn't trust it...and we ended up inseminating 5 days early.  We read "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" and by the third time, we'd figured it out much better...

    Good luck!

  • We were successful ttc at home with a known donor.  We used egg whites, and a catheter for ici (intra-cervical) insemination.  We also used a cup (sorry pregnancy brain mixed with just getting back off a 30 hour flight path yesterday - :P).  The cup is the same ones used for periods... It'll come back to me sometime. Anyway it trapped the goods near the cervix.  We were successful on our first time w/ the known donor (we did 4 insems that cycle).  However our TTC story is much longer - so not officially 1st TTC cycle.

Ugh - need sleep. Anyway good luck!! I'm happy to give you more info and website references too.

  • Thanks so much for the tips everyone!
