C-sections

Questions- does your baby do/have this?

Is your baby very hiccup-y?

B has hiccups all the time.

Does your baby sound like they have a bad stuffed up nose?

B does. You can hear the mucus all moving around but I cant get it out.

Im just curious if other c/s babies have this. The drs say its all normal.

  • most babies...not just csection babies get the newborn stuffiness.  It happens around the age your baby is.  Totally normal.  However, if you think it is really bad just call the dr. again.  but every kid I know got it and they were both vaginal and csection.

  • My LO still gets the hiccups a lot and she's 7 months old! But I remember her getting them several times a day as a newborn. Gripe water or nursing always helped get rid of them for her. She was also very stuffy and congested, especially at night. That went away after a few months.

  • my older son had horrible hiccups and was very congested as a newborn...and he was a vaginal birth....I can't compare how my c-section baby was at that age because I was in the hospital for most of his 1st month...he was sent home at 1.5 weeks without me after I had horrible compliations that resulted in me being in CCU.

  • Most newborns have this especially in the winter months while you have the heat on in your house. It's completely normal. Putting a humidifer in the nursery will help.

  • My VBAC baby was much more snuffly than my c/s baby.  In theory, c/s babies don't always clear the gunk out as quickly because they don't get squeezed all the way through the birth canal.  But what you are describing is normal for all babies, regardless of how they are born.

  • Sleeping elevated can help too. I had a beach towel folded under the sheets until he went in the crib with a crib wedge.
  • DD has both.  She's got bad gas and colic so the hiccups just go along with that.  And she's sounded so congested I've asked the dr about it.  He says it's normal and she's not sick.  People have suggested nasal drops but I haven't tried them since doc says she's good.  I don't think either is c/s related.

  • Both of these things are common in all newborns, whether they were born vaginally or by c/s.
