Pregnant after IF

safe face wash for acne prone skin

I've just read that you should avoid washing your face with products containing salicylic acid.  Anyone have a suggestion for a safe facial cleanser, especially if you have combo or acne prone skin?

  • Belli brand makes pregnancy safe stuff.  I got it on drugstore.com, but you can find it other places too.  You can also use tea tree oil stuff.  The Body Shop has a tea tree oil line.  I find their toner a little too drying, though.

  • I have acne prone skin that got worse during the 1st trimester.  I've just been using Cetaphil.  I also use GREAT cover-up!  I have no idea where I would be without make-up.

  • I sell Arbonne skincare products. They are safe for pregnancy, hypo allergenic, vegan certified, nothing artificial and work amazingly! Im still TTC but it does wonders on my skin while I'm on all the meds! Really amazing stuff!

  • I use Pupose liquid face wash. It's not made to treat acne but it does a good job of removing makeup and doesn't leave a layer residue. My face feels very ckean after I wash it. Then I just spot treat a little with tea tree oil.

I looked at Arbonne's stuff but it all has salicylic acid in it, which means it has not been shown to be safe for pregnancy.  Is there another line that I'm not aware of?

The RE9 line is the one I would recommend. the only product in that line that has the salicylic acid in is the Intense Renewal Serum. The FC5 line doesn't have any in it either. FC5 has a line for normal/dry skin and another for oily. The RE9 is the anti aging line and is the number one best selling line we have.

My RE has said that salicylic acid is fine in moderation, but if you don't feel comfortable with it I would never pressure anyone.

Let me know if you would like more info. I'd be happy to share!

  • I have been using this cleanser:

    https://www.bioelements.com/decongestant-cleanser-products-3.php

for quite a while, and I really like it.  I've tried others, but this one seems to work really well for me, so I always come back to it.  It cleans my skin really well but doesn't feel like it's stripping it.

My DH has super sensitive skin, I just got him this cleanser:

    https://www.cleure.com/Gentle-Skin-Cleanser-p/ski03.htm
That line seems to have the most gentle products around (all free of salicylic acid: https://www.cleure.com/Salicylate-Free-Products-s/256.htm), so that might be something to look into as well.

    Good luck!

  • I've been on the hunt myself.  I haven't ask my OB's opinion yet.  I plan to next week when I see her.

I'v been using Proactive for about 9 years, and am pretty happy with it.  It doesn't give me flawless skin, but it does help.  Proactive has Benzoyl Peroxide in it, not Sacilic Acid.  I've read a bunch of differant stuff about Benzoyl Peroxide and Sacilic Acid, and it seems like some things I read say stay away (from both) and others say they are both fine.  Seems like there isn't any conclusive research on the topic!

I did read that face washes with this ingredients are fine, since you are rinsing them off, little is absorbed into the bllodstream.  Just don't use any creams that you leave on.  Of course this was in the atricles saying it was ok, versus those articles that said don't do it.

Anyway, I've cut back my Proactive use to once every other day (face wash only), and stopped using the cream.  When I don't use the proactive wash, I use Noxema.

I found this product online, but I haven't tried it.  Curious if anyone has?

At 20-week anatomy scan found IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction), and very low Amniotic Fluid.  Now, I'm High Risk and have weekly ultrasounds to monitor fluid and growth.  If baby runs out of room or is too growth restricted, they will deliver ASAP.  My current goal is to make it to 28 weeks!
