I went in to have my scheduled removal of my cerclage today and was already dilated 2 cm (didn't even know you could dilate with it in). Anyways my doctor decided to leave in my cerclage for one more week just in case. Since I am already dilated with the cerclage in, I am wondering how long it will be after it is taken out before I go into labor. Anyone have any experience with this? I know it's different for everyone, but just trying to get an idea of what to expect.

Re: Cerclage and dilation
I have no personal experience but I asked my doctor this and he said that it could be I get sent home after removal and come back the same night to have the baby or he stays in till 39 weeks. He said that when the babies are bigger the hips tend to hold them in easier than when the babies are small, it's easier for them to come out. I have read that people dialate to a 3 right away when it's removed, and have their baby the same day but I have heard women dialate right after but go to 40 weeks. I think it's different for everyone.

My Blog
I went right to 3 cm after my cerclage was removed....and a week later I was at 4.5cm. The OB didn't expect me to make my next appointment and gave us instructions for delivery at home in case we didn't make it. But the next week I was back at the office at 5cm. That day my water had "sprung a leak" and they started pitocin to move things along. DS was high, in transverse position and distressed and I wound up having a c-section.
All of that is to say that you could still be pregnant 2 weeks after the cerclage is removed. I pretty much thought he was going to fall out but he had other plans.
