I was telling a friend about my complete breakdown yesterday over my dwindling supply, and she had a suggestion. She said instead of ploughing through my stash until it's gone, I should use formula in cereal/purees, etc, and breastmilk for bottles.
Side note, we're doing purees/cereal at daycare and BLW at home.
She suggested that way, Cammie won't start to associate formula with drinking-- it will just be part of the taste of food, which is new anyway. Then she'll get extra calories too- I thought it was an interesting suggestion.
So of course I need opinions...
Re: BM to formula question- Clicky!
do you have enough to do that? We aren't doing purees but I wouldn't think you would use more than an oz here are there (but I could be wrong, haven't done it!)
I thought you were having to add a whole extra bottle per day? What I did was send her the previous day's milk every day, plus take whatever extra i needed from my stash. Once the stash ran out, I started replacing just that stash milk (some days none, some days 3 oz, some days 6oz, just depends on how pumping goes!) with formula. That way she never has gotten a bottle of full formula, and I'm not pumping any less than I was before, so it's not affecting my supply.
we do have to add a whole bottle, but he wants us to get calories in her, any way, any how, and cereal came into the discussion to add even more.
I was trying to give her some cereal for "breakfast" at daycare, but it's taking a good 1-2 ounces each time-- not helping my stash depletion issues
I send her what I pump, plus fill in from my stash. I was planning on doing the same thing about replacing what I can't pump with formula (or hopefully donated milk- keeping my fingers crossed!) after the stash is gone, but I was thinking maybe saving myself that 1-2 ounces a day might draw out my freezer stash a little bit longer?
With all of Averys problems with his ears he isnt a fan of the bottle right now unless he is hungry enough. I have been able to get him an extra 7 oz through cereals and purees.
I would definitely use formula in the purees and give her BM as much as you can.
Also, I dont know if you saw my post yesterday in response to your "Crying for 3 hours post". If you cant find anyone that will donate through HMHB and are willing to pay for the shipping, I have some that I can send. The dates are from mid-July to October. I *think* there is about 300 oz., but there may be more or less. I was getting ready to start cycling through it and then we discovered Avery is milk-protein intolerant so I had to cut out all dairy. I cant use it now.
