Any Woodbury Mamas? Relocating questions...

Hi we are relocating from Salt Lake City, UT to Minneapolis.  I am looking at Woodbury because I've found a few town homes that I like.  I have never been there in my life.  I was wondering if you could take a look at the links below and tell me if they are in a good area?  I will be flying out in the next two weeks to take a look, but will only be there for two days so I need to narrow things down.

Also, how do you like Woodbury?  My husband is a pilot at the airport there and according to google maps the airport is about 30  minutes away.  Would that be correct?  Thanks again!

  • Not sure where those are specifically, but overall, Woodbury is a great place to live, esp. with a family. I don't live in Woodbury but I know a number of people who do. It's pretty spread out but there are plenty of neighborhood developments, parks/trails and your choice of strip malls. ;)

30 min. is prob. about accurate to the airport without traffic.

    Good luck with your move.

  • Also don't live in Woodbury, but know that it is a very nice suburb.  They have just about every store you would need, lots of restaurants, lots of parks, pretty good schools, a hospital right in the city, and fairly easy access to the interstates.  Looks like both of these places are in the eastern part of the city, which I believe is where a lot of the newer construction is.  Don't know much about the neighborhoods, but you rarely hear anything bad about the city.

  • I live in a suburb about 10 minutes from Woodbury so we go there a lot.  My sister lived in townhouses right next to the first link and my good friend lives in the units in the second link.  They are all in the same stretch of area and very nice.  To me you can't go wrong in Woodbury.  The area is really nice and it has everything you need.  Where those units are you have Target, Walmart, Sam's Club, fast food, a shopping mall, hospital and parks all within a 5 minute drive.  It is very close to the cities and right near 2 of the big interstates.

  • I also live a few minutes West from Woodbury, and like that area. Lots of stuff to do, to see, to eat. Neighborhoods seem nice too. Good luck in your new adventure!

  • I've lived in Woodbury for almost 7 years. I will echo a lot of the other comments and say that it's a nice area. Three things I like best about the area: 1) Not as much traffic in this part of the Twin Cities metro area (most of it is concentrated in the south/west metro), 2) it's on a sharp gradient from city to country (15-20 minute drive gets you to downtown St Paul or Afton State Park), 3) Just about any shop/restaurant/etc you would want is in Woodbury, or in neighboring Oakdale or Cottage Grove. There are no standard indoor malls nearby, but lots of scattered outdoor shopping center clusters.

30 minutes to the airport sounds about right. I work somewhat close to the airport, and my commute is usually around 20-25 minutes. Ever since they finished the Wakota bridge project about 2 years ago (I-494 over the river..it's now 5 lanes in each direction), traffic goes much more smoothly to and from the airport area. I hardly ever see significant slowdowns on my morning or afternoon work commutes anymore.

    Good luck!

  • We live in Woodbury and love it. We specifically moved here because it's so nice and quiet and has a great school district. The area you are looking in is fine, not OVERLY close to like Target or anything, but like within 2 miles. LOTS of walking/biking trails in Woodbury that you will love.

The airport is more like 20 minutes from WB than 30, but depends on traffic.

  • Thanks ladies!  You have been lots of help.  Hopefully we will find something soon.  I'm not looking forward to our 20 hour drive out there, but am excited about finally being settled there.  Thanks again!
  • We live and Woodbury and love it. I've been here for about six years now. It's grown a lot but is a good community, with good schols, with lots to do.
