If you make LOs baby food

What have you made so far? We've tried: apples, pears, sweet potatos, carrots, butternut squash, green beans(he hated). I feel like I need a few more things but i'm not sure what..I have started mixing some together. Have you made meats yet? I'm not even sure how to go about that. I guess just cook the meat and puree it down with water?

Re: If you make LOs baby food

  • You've tried more than us. DD has had oatmeal, avacado, sweet potatoes, green beans, butternut squash and banana (in that order). Next is peas and then pears. I also want to try meats and I guess we'll try to puree although it sounds gross. ;)

  • We've done all the things you've done, in addition to peas, avocado, prunes, and oatmeal (boxed, not homemade).  Haven't made meat yet, but yeah, you just cook it and puree with water or you can use cooking liquid from a fruit you've already tried.

  • Fruits:bananas (no purees, just mashed), blueberries, apples, pears, peaches, plums

Veggies: butternut squash, summer squash, green beans, peas, carrots, mashed potatoes, yams, and sweet potatoes (there is a difference between the two)

I'm not a fan of meat purees so we are trying to give her big hunks of meat but she isn't into them yet.

  • I started out making his food, but he prefers store bought better so I haven't made any in awhile.  I don't think I pureed it enough so I'll hold on to it until he is better at eating and the consistency doesn't bother him.

I've made: Carrots, Sweet Potatoes, Green Beans, Apples, Bananas, Avocado.

I plan on holding off on making his meats until he has some teeth to chew with, and until then he'll get the purees with meat and a fruit/veggie.  The idea of pureeing my own meat creeps me out so I'll give him homemade chicken when I can feed it to him shredded!

  • She's had just about everything you mentioned plus broccoli, plums, and mango.  I refuse to puree meats though.  She has had chicken.  I just give it to her plain (no seasoning) and tear it into really small pieces.  She does great with it this way!  And really seems to like it.

  • I've made peas, bananas (mashed), sweet potatoes, squash, and pears.

I'm making green beans, apples and avacado this weekend.

  • I've made everything you listed, plus prunes, peaches, peas, and also homemade oatmeal and barley cereals. Oh, and avocado and banana, if that counts as "making."

I think next I want to try mango (probably from frozen chunks) and parsnips. I also want to try making a batch of carrots by roasting and pureeing, rather than steaming.

I'm not in a hurry for meats. I don't eat red meat myself, so I'm not sure when I'll give it to DD. I like the idea of poaching chicken and shredding it, but maybe in a month or so, she really hasn't had success with finger foods just yet. I might also try tofu and scrambled eggs (maybe yolk-only?) when she's a bit older.

Wholesomebabyfood.com gives pretty good info on meat. Also a baby cookbook I have says that lamb is a good first meat for baby.

  • We also tried peas, apricots and acorn squash.
  • I have made carrots, sweet potato, cauliflower, broccoli, butternut squash, banana, and pear. I have bought a few jars too, blueberries, peaches, peas, beef and veg.

I haven't ventured into making my own meats yet. The couple times DS had turkey or chicken, I gave him little pieces from my plate.

  • We've done all those plus summer squash, peas, blueberries, peaches, plums, bananas, and a mixed veggie one (beans, peas, corn, carrots).  Also have mixed quite a few fruits at this point.

Never pureed my own meat with DS1.  Tried two different jarred kinds; he refused them both.  We didn't do meat until he was doing small pieces on his own (9-10mon).

I've roasted and pureed carrots (used wholesomebabyfood.com) and they didn't have near as smooth of a consistency as steamed. I almost feel like thats why LO doesn't like them very well. I usually have to mix in rice cereal just to get him to take them.

  • Grains: rice cereal, oatmeal -- next up: barley, then wheat germ

Fruits: avocado, banana, pears, peaches, mango, apricots, prunes -- next up: pumpkin

Veggies: sweet potatoes, squash, green beans, peas, carrots, parsnips (started last night) -- next up: zucchini

We go back and forth on meats. We want him to try them, but don't want to puree them. He's good with consistency though, so I think if I shredded it really small and mixed it in a veggie, he'd be okay. Or, I might "lightly" puree it and still mix it with the veggie.
