Not sure if any of my fello bumpies have gone through this, but my husband and I have lived 4 hours away from all of our friends and family for the past 3 years. Although they try to visit often, it is just so hard being away. My husband and I both work at the same place and things are getting really bad at work. There is new management and it is no longer fun for us and we are constantly living in fear that we might be let go. Things are just very tough. I am expecting baby #2 in July and thought that now would be a perfect time for my husband and I to put in resumes for jobs closer to our families. i am excited for the change and hope to find a new job soon, but somethings really make me nervous. I am afraid that if I get an interview, they will see that I am pregnant and choose not to hire me. I am also afraid that if I do find a job insurance will not kick in immediately. I know that many companies make you wait 30 days for benefits to kick in.
So anyway...I am trying to be hopeful that I will be able to find a job soon, but still very worried. Did anyone else go through something like this?
Re: Changing jobs and relocating while pregnant
I've interviewed while pregnant (both times - I work contract stuff) but not showing.
Your concerns are valid. While some people will hire pregnant women there are many who won't and while it's illegal to discriminate I also totally understand why an employer would want to shy away from a new hire who will have an extended absence so quickly after hiring on.
Can you guys survive on DH's salary and benefits if he finds something and you don't?
Do you have maternity leave and good insurance now? If so I think I might suck it up thru the pregnancy and try to relocate as soon after the birth as possible.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
