WWYD: re Orbit Baby stroller I won

So I won that Orbit Baby G2 stroller and the sidekick board. I can't decide whether to keep it or try and sell it. I really don't need a $750+ stroller ($970 when you add the sidekick board). But at the same time, it must be pretty awesome to be that expensive. It will also be good for when we have #2, as Callie can ride the sidekick board as I push #2.

Would you keep it or would you sell it and just buy a different stroller for 2 when the time comes?

Re: WWYD: re Orbit Baby stroller I won

  • If you are planning on having another I would most likely keep it. For the $ I bet it is pretty awesome. If you need the money then sell it, if not I would keep it. It does look pretty awesome. Congrats again for an awesome win!!

  • I don't think I could make a decision until I tried it out.  Is there a store you could go to to check it out?  That's what I had to do when I was deciding between strollers to buy.

If you like it and don't *need* the money, I'd be inclined to keep it and just sell the one you have now (take off the sidekick board until you need it).

Congrats on this tough decision :)

  • I agree with PP - is there a store you can test it at?

To be honest though, I would probably sell it and use the money now.  $900+ could buy a lot of diapers!

  • I'd sell it in a heartbeat b/c I couldn't contemplate spending that kind of money on a stroller. I know you didn't spend the money since you won it, but I'd be thinking of all the baby stuff I could buy with the money you got for it.

This was my thinking as well.

  • Wow! You won an orbit? That's awesome! Congratulations.

I actually have an orbit stroller but I got it 3 years ago for DS1 so it's the first generation stroller. The infant carseat is amazing and totally awesome but it looks like you just got the toddler seat with the base and kick board. Still totally awesome!!

I personally LOVE my orbit but I decided against the sidekick board and bought a sit and stand for my kids who are 2.5 years apart. I think it depends greatly on how far apart you're thinking of spacing your kids. If its anything less than 2.5 or 3 years than the sidekick board will be useless and very impractical.

I prefer the sit and stand idea over the sidekick idea because even 3 year olds get tired walking too much, and plus you can strap the older kid in on a sit and stand to insure they stay in the stroller vs. jump off very 3 minutes.

    Tough decision!

  • It's hard to picture a kid standing on those things while you are pushing the stroller. Wont it be in your way???

I would sell it too. That's ALOT of money! lol

  • I'd sell it.

    1. It's too...modern?...looking for my tastes. Looks like a space pod or something.

    2. What if Callie wants to sit? I'd probably go for something like the sit and stand for 2 kids.

    3. I could do a lot with $900!

  • ya, #2 will likely come sooner than later. Ideally they'd be 2 years apart, max. I recently saw a sit and stand and thought that looked like a great option for 2 kids. ugh, I hate decisions like this. I would never spend this amount of money on a stroller. And the stroller definitely isn't my "style", definitely more modern than I'm drawn to.

I'm thinking I'll try selling it on Craigslist. I know they go for about $700 (plus $100 for shipping) with the sidekick on ebay so I'm gonna try for that or maybe $750 since it won't have to be shipped via craigslist. And I guess if it doesn't sell, it doesn't sell. I don't want to deal with the shipping and the fees on ebay/paypal.

ETA: I thought I saw them go for that price on ebay, I'll have to recheck obviously. How much would you list it for?

  • Honestly, I would probably keep it. I had a friend give me a high end stroller as a hand me down and it is by far my favorite. You could use it now while Callie is young and then again for No. 2 when a true double stroller isnt working anymore and you really only have 1 in a stroller.

I looked on eBay and the resell compared to the value didnt seem all that great to me. You might get 300-400 for it based on the current bids, but for me I would keep it.

I think selling price would depend on your area.

  • I would sell it mainly because I think it's ugly.

All of this! Especially the space pod :)

  • No real input on keep vs. sell, but thought I'd let you know -

I have a bunch of friends who have won big items like that, and I won a car seat that I didn't want/need.  We've all had really good luck returning the items to a store that sells them (BuyBuy Baby is particularly good), and just saying that we got the item as a gift (which is essentially true), and then getting store credit for the entire amount.

A friend returned a stroller system that she won to BuyBuyBaby, and it was worth over $1000!  She used the credit to buy her baby furniture!

You aren't hurting the store either, because they have new-in-box merchandise to sell.  If they cared, they'd require a receipt.

I'd probably keep the stroller if I liked it, especially because I already have most of the baby "stuff" that I'll need, even for kid #2.  And I'd return it if I didn't love it.  If there was a fancy stroller that I did really like, I'd probably go buy that, because, free money!

Hm! Interesting. We do have BBB nearby and I know they're good at returns. I wonder if the packaging is the same as if it we shipped from BBB? It's just in a brown box with a picture of the stroller on it.
