Glider for nursery that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

Any tips on where in Austin I can find a glider that doesn't cost a million dollars?  I like the fully upholstered kind, like they have at Pottery Barn Kids

But I just can't wrap my brain around spending $900 on it.  That costs more than I paid for my whole couch!  We're not above buying used, but I haven't had much success on Craigslist finding anything close to what I'm looking for.  Any tips on where I should start my hunt in Austin?

  • waaaay back when we found an upholstered one at walmart.com.  they will deliver it free to the store for pickup.  super cheap.  under $300 for sure it was awhile back.

  • Try the "best chair". (yes that is actually the name!) I've had 2 different ones for both of my kids and they have held up so well. They run about $450 - 550 total with a 30% coupon from buy buy baby.  I would highly recommend them! Would also recommend getting a glider recline with an ottoman so you can recline fully if your little one is sick or rock them if you need to.

  • I got ours at Buy buy baby for about $450 after a 20% off coupon, it's super sturdy and comfy and I love it. It's by Best chairs
  • Ours is Little Castle https://littlecastleinc.com/ -- and I looooove it.  I also got it at Buy Buy Baby for a huge discount.  (If I recall, we had a 20% off coupon and they also didn't charge us for special fabric (their mistake - it was right after they opened and they didn't think they had to, then found out they were supposed to).  I think the deal is that they have certain fabrics in stock/at that price but they can order you anything else, you just pay extra for custom.

By the way - congrats!  I remember you from the Knot!

  • Target has a ton, but like the Walmart one they don't carry them in stock. That said, you can return it as it's not a custom order.
  • Ditto Best Chairs at BBB with a coupon.  Although, when we went to pick up our chair they gave us the side eye for using a coupon, saying that they aren't supposed to use it on furniture.  Seems like everyone uses it for that so maybe that person was misinformed.

Be sure you really sit in the chair and use all of the features before you buy it.  I love our chair, it's super comfy, however the recline position kind of sucks b/c it doesn't stay open by itself.  I have to kind of hold it open with my legs.  Not a huge deal, but I was pretty annoyed with that in the beginning when all I wanted was to lay back and shut my eyes.  :-)

  • I DESPISE the Walmart one.  I liked the looks of it and wanted to go cheaper, and initially thought it would be a good low cost solution .... but it's like sitting on a piece of cardboard.  I can't wait to take it out of DD's room.  I don't even think it's worth reselling, I'll put it on CL for free.

If this is your first baby, and you can swing the cost of a nicer chair, get one.  I REALLY wish I'd just gotten a nice glider with our first baby - even if it wasn't the pretty upholstered kind - I regret not having a really cozy chair to rock our babies in.

Yep, this is the one we have (though I can't find a link to the actual rocker). It was super easy to assemble and is very comfortable. The plan was to get it reupholstered but we never did. It has a beige slip cover on it and I think it looks very nice.

  • There are always a ton on Craigslist. People use them for a year or two and then list them, so they can be in nearly new condition. Worth a check at least.

  • If you guys are tall at all, make sure you get one that has a high enough back so you can rest your head against it. My friend has a cheapie one from I don't know where but they hate it because the back is so short. We have the Best chair Bilana, which has square arms so looks a tiny bit more modern
  • DH and I picked out one at BRU. I can't seem to pick it out online, but they have it in the store showroom floor. It's an upholstered chair, definitely more like an easy chair, and it glides and reclines (sadly not at the same time Wink). It's $300 without coupons, and usually they have 20% offers. It has a pretty high back, so my 6'1'' hubby is comfortable in it. My only complaint is that at 5'4'', I have a little trouble reaching the floor, so we're going to have to buy an inexpensive ottoman to go with it.

ETA: I think this is it.

We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.
