DD has to have an ultrasound tomorrow

So we went for DD's 6 month appointment today and they said her head is growing faster then they would like. It went from 90% to 97%. So the doctor wants her to have an ultrasound on her head to make sure everythings ok. Of course i'm trying not to worry but i'm freakin stressed out! Has anyone else had to deal with something like this? Thoughts and prayers would be really really appreciated right now!

Re: DD has to have an ultrasound tomorrow

  • My DS has always been at the top of the charts with his ginormous head as well, that sucker gave me a 4th degree tear! I wouldn't worry, I'm sure everythings just fine! The way I see it is Big Head=Smart Baby!   :)   I'll keep your DD in my thoughts and prayers for her ultrasound tomorrow!

  • My nephew's head was literally off the charts in size.  They watched it over a period of like 4 months and every thing was fine.  I know it's hard not to worry!

  • Did they remeasure it? LO's head has always been around 75 percentile. When I took him in for his 6 month check up it had jumped up to over 95th percentile...the doctor went and got the tape and remeasured it twice. Sure enough the nurse had measured it wrong. Seriously scared me though. I hope you get good news at the ultrasound. Try not to worry!
  • I have a big-head baby too. I think he's in the 95th percentile. The pedi has never acted like he's concerned about it though.

Try not to stress too much about the tests. I'm sure it will be nothing! Keep us posted though!

  • I'm sorry. It's scary. DD had to have an ultrasound of her heart at 6 weeks (and has to go back next month), so I know the feeling. Just think positive. I hope everything is ok. Keep us posted.

  • Ds has had several ultrasounds of his kidneys but we have no experience with big head babies. We make babies with small hairy heads. Good luck tomorrow. I'm sure everything is fine. Will your doc go over the results right away so you don't have to continue to worry? Keep us posted.

  • My niece had a head off the charts, I mean literally off the charts.  She is turning three next month and just last month she is finally back on the charts and dropped a ton from her last appointment.  I would not worry, though I understand your concerns.  Good Luck!

  • DS had to have one last month. The pedi said they would call if anything was abnormal and we haven't received a call yet. I'm positive your DD is fine. A lot of babies have big heads nowadays, like PP's and myself. Try not to worry! GL tomorrow! BTW during the ultrasound I sang Twinkle twinkle about 20+ times, it's the only tunes that calms my little beast. Lol. Maybe bring something to distract DD while they do the ultrasound. T & P's for you and DD!

  • We are going for our SECOND head ultrasound next week.

Her head has been off the charts the entire time (like, 105th percentile!) which the doctor wasn't worried about. What does concern her is the fact that her head growth isn't really leveling off- just keeps going up.

My husband has a huge head, and so does his dad, so we aren't terribly concerned. (Developmentally she is on track.) Also, her first ultrasound came back fine.

The process really isn't that bad- we got the results within two days so not much waiting. Good luck!! I'm SURE everything will be fine. Our doctor says she sees this all the time, and it is usually nothing!

Edit: Just wanted to add, Zoe did fine with the ultrasound. Didn't cry or anything. It was quick.

Edit: Ugh, edit a second time to say what I mean by developmentally on track is that she passes the doctor's neurological tests every time, and is laughing and babbling and rolling and sitting and all that good stuff!

  • Thanks everyone for the reassuring words! The nurse measured her head twice. DD had a huge growth spurt from 4-6months so I bet that might of had something to do with it. She has had ultrasounds before on her heart when she was first born so I hope she does equally as good with the one tomorrow. I will deff keep u guys updated! Thanks for the support!

  • My LO's head went from 87th to 97th, but my pedi wasn't worried at all. I'm sure it's just a precaution and everything is fine :)
