Pearsauce

I steamed the apples first last weekend and the applesauce came out perfect.  I want to make pearsauce next.  Do I steam the pears for that too?

  • I boiled them, but I think steaming would work as well or better.

  • Yes, and they take less time than apples.  DS loves them, and so do I!  I don't know why they don't market pearsauce - it's delicious!

  • We boiled the apples...I wonder if you can do that with pears?

  • Yes- I steam the pears just like the apples and it turns out great.  C loves them!

FWIW- I read that steaming preserves more of the food's nutrients than boiling does.

  • I steamed mine in the Brezza. It is by far Ian's favorite.

  • I thought I read on wholesomebabyfood.com that you don't have to cook pears...so I haven't. Off to make sure I haven't been killing my kid...

  • Okay, so it says to steam them "gently" if baby is younger than 6 months. I think she'll be okay! Smile

Can you report back? I've been wondering if cooking them would make them thicker (even though that goes against logic) because they're super runny when I puree them raw.
