PF wash routine

I'm reading stuff all over the board with how to wash... most of the FAQ responses seem to be for AIOs or pockets.

I have GMD prefolds, their website says to do a cold wash (and rinse??) followed by a hot wash (and rinse??), then extra rinse cycle. We are using the EFF recipe... and I need to do laundry today.

Sorry, the sleep deprivation is catching up to me...

Too complicated. I do a cold rinse, hot wash, cold rinse, cold rinse.  Nothing special about washing one type of CD over another once they are prepped.

This. I haven't had any problems yet doing this routine.

  • Haven't started yet, so dumb newbie questions...Embarrassed

How many do you wash at one time? Do you put the detergent in during the hot wash?

The whole wash routine makes me nervous and I don't want to mess up my diapers!

    TIA!

For newborn washing I'd suggest only doing half a load at once or one day's worth. Put detergent in hot wash only- if you use too much you can create build up issues. You're just prepping at this stage, right? You do know to wash natural and synthetic fabrics separately while prepping.

  • Yep! Still in the prepping stage right now, and have been washing them separately from my pockets and covers.

About 3 more weeks until baby could come, so just trying to get a feel for a wash routine before I'm faced with a load of dirty diapers and no clue what to do.

    Thanks for your answer!
