(or anyone else that wants to put in their two cents)

I noticed that your LOs are almost the exact age difference that mine will be. I'm wondering what you went with stroller-wise. Did you buy a double?

I've been looking at doubles and they are either too expensive or have horrible reviews. We don't go out much, so I don't want to make it into a huge investment. I was thinking about just getting a nice umbrella stroller for DD and using the travel sytem for DC2. We would use two strollers if I was with DH. If I'm by myself, I'd wear the new baby and push DD. Does this sound insane?

DD will be 2.5 when DH deploys. Is that too young to expect her to be able to make a mall trip without a stroller?

  • I think that sounds good. We bought the chicco tandem double stroller. We got a great deal so it was about $150 when its normally $300. Its big and annoying. I only like to take it to open spaces, zoo or farmers market. In the mall its just ridiculous to try and weave in and out of racks. I still prefer to put Aiden in the stroller and wear Emily. I do think 2.5 years is too young to walk a mall. Aiden will only hold my hand for so long. I'd never trust him to walk beside me, and chasing a toddler with a baby in a stroller is something I'd never want to do. I don't know how much this helps your decision. I think if I was doing it over I'd have skipped the heavy duty double and invested in a smaller double like I originally planned. My nephew just turned four and had to ride for a bit in their stroller at our state fair this year. It's surprising how quickly a couple blocks of walking can tire them out. Good luck with this! It was one of the decisions I mulled over forever :)

  • Thanks, that helped! I seem to be obsessing over this stroller thing. I've been thinking about it since before my BFP.

I think if DD isn't ready for out in public walking by the time H leaves I can just get a side by side double umbrella. DC2 will be almost 1 by then so it should be fine.

  • I'm not in the situation at all, but I do seem to know a LOT of people with double strollers. They almost all have the city mini double and really love it. The other one that I think is cool is the city select (or maybe it's the elite?) that you can add and take parts off of so that if you only have 1 kid or something you don't need to drag all the pieces. My friend who has 1 kid got it, but then also got the city mini 'cause she said it's too big to drag around with 1 kid.

  • Yeah, they rec the City Select on the 2U2 board like they there or something, lol.  It's $600 though. Not to sound like a loser or anything, but we don't get out much. I barely feel like I'm using my Graco enough, there's no way I could justify purchasing a City stoller.

That's what I would do. I think you can get those fairly reasonable.
