yup, anxious me posting again. LOL

40 week visit with OB today. After several days of me doing acupressure points, some random fun cntrx last night.... You would THINK I made some real progress towards L&D soon right?

Nope, only 1cm dil. really soft though and while she didnt give me an eff% she said it was progressing a little. She offered to strip the membranes for me, but I was literally almost crying from the discomfort of the internal so we skipped it.

What is wrong with me that internals are always so damn painful??? All my adult life, internal exams have been "uncomfortable" at the least. Even the speculum during the normal yearly visits hurt.

How am I going to handle a natural birth?

Focus on the goal-  Having a hand in your cervix doesn't have the same pot of gold at the end of its rainbow as labor and delivery.

I think that internals becomes less painful the close you get to birth.  Something about how the cervix is angled inward toward the uterus before too much dilation.  I know my first one at 32 weeks (had issues and they wanted to make sure I wasn't dilating) was horrible but this weeks at 37 weeks wasn't that bad.

I remember having the same thought after my first internal exam. You can still handle a drug-free birth! It's a different experience. Hang in there!

I hate pain. I hate internals (relaxing really helps), and I asked the nurse to give me the numbing shot before giving me the hep-lock. And I had a wonderful, natural birth. You can do it. I'm sorry you haven't made progress...your baby will be here before you know it. Good luck!!
