I have been fighting off a cold and had a sore throat so I was taking cough drops... I just found out I am 6 weeks pg, and now I am scared to death b/c I know cough drops are harmful. ugh

I don't think cough drops are harmful, at least many are not. I just got over a cold myself and used Luden's unmedicated cherry cough drops.  Those are fine.  I think the only ones you shouldn't have are the ones with painkillers in them.  I even think the menthol ones are fine.

I don't think cough drops are harmful... I used riccola cough drops while PG.

I agree with the PP-ers and regardless the baby's placenta isn't in place and functioning until about 8 wks.

Uh Oh! No, she is right.  Her baby is going to come out needing an eye patch.  It happened to a girl I know.

Don't freak over every little thing you did before you knew you were pregnant. I conceived in October, didn't find out until late November. At our Thanksgiving family get together I had at least 3 or 4 glasses of wine.  I've now got a perfectly healthy 12 week fetus in there Just stop using them and talk to your OB about safe alternatives.

i have a horrible cough and asked my OB about cough drops yesterday.  she says they're fine and recommends the halls with vitamin C.

No that's what it says as it comes out your vag. C/s lose the whole echo effect, so it's not as awesome.

I'm in the same boat as you. I've talked to a pharmacist and medical doctor and thu both say it's okay to take psuedoephedrine.  but straight regular strength psuedoephedrine; but NOT the time release kind. just regular plain ole four hour and you'lll be fine.  I was a little freaked out when I started taking it, so I just took it before I went to bed.  also, cough drops aren't bad just the ones with all the additives and menthol you should avoid. if you do need something for your through a good decaf lemon hot tea with honey will work every time.  best natural remedy for sore throats.

They are not harmful but if you are really concerned, call your OB's office and find out. They are on my "okay list" from my OB, though.

Didn't know cough drops were a no-no during pregnancy. Don't freak out over what you've done before you knew; hell, I was so sure I wasn't KU this cycle, I drank like a fish over Christmas and drank again NYE, and have enjoyed the occasional glass of wine before POAS today and finding out I was nearly 5 weeks along. Since implantation probably didn't happen til around NYE or so, I figure our little bean will turn out fine, and I'm sure your cough drops didn't do any damage, either.
