Moms with fibroid problems

I assume I am not alone on this board- my PTL was cause by a fibroid that grew out of hand from all my extra blood supply during pregnancy and caused my cervix to thin, etc....  If you are still having issues post baby (I am having out of control menstrual bleeding and some discomfort/pressure) what are you going to do about this or have you done anything yet?  I had a D&C type procedure that was not effective for me.

Re: Moms with fibroid problems

  • I had the same situation-- a large fibroid that eventually degenerated and caused my PTL.  My daughter was born at 26 weeks.  She'll be two years old next month, and I actually just had a laproscopic myomectomy to remove the fibroid.  It's been a week since my surgery and I feel pretty good. My doctor said that I'll have to have a c-section the next time around, but I'm okay with that-- I was less than impressed with the whole labor thing. :)

  • i had the same issue post partum but since i wasn't able to breastfeed i went on birth control which i was planning to do anyway.

@ LuckyMom -- my son was born at 26 wks also due to fibroid and i'm looking at a myomectomy. would you mind if i pm your or email about your experience -- how is your recovery going?

  • Sure-- shoot me a PM.  My recovery is going really well.  The first few days were the toughest, but honestly I think most of that was because of my reaction to the anesthesia.  They gave me percocet and as long as I took it on time, my pain was pretty well managed.  I just got back from having my stitches out and talking to my doctor, and she feels really optimistic about future pregnancies.  She says the uterus tends to heal really fast, and if we want, we could start trying for a baby in as early as 3 months.
