We had an elective ultrasound at 16 weeks to see if they could determine the sex yet. The tech was very good and said she wouldn't tell us if she wasn't 100% certain. We clearly saw three lines indicating girl and there was nothing dangling. My intuition has said girl the entire pregnancy as well. We are very excited to have a girl but people keep questioning us and wondering if our 20 wk a/s will say something differently. My MIL and FIL are the top offenders; they still hope for a boy and will believe it when they see it.
Anyways, has anyone clearly saw the three lines at 16 weeks but then been told boy at their 20 week appointment?? I'm confident we're having a girl since the tech was very good about showing us everything and pointing parts of the anatomy out but these nagging comments are at the back of my mind.

Re: Anyone see 3 lines but later told boy?
My friend had an elective u/s at 14w, but her baby was only measuring 13w4d so the lady wouldn't guarantee her "guess" of girl. She went to the OB a few weeks later and they confirmed girl. Her a/s is this Friday so I'm assuming that's when she'll really feel comfortable, but the doctor confirmed girl, it wasn't a guess.
As for me, we saw boy parts loud and clear at our elective!
At this early of an u/s, those three lines could and most likely are the 3 blood vessels in the umbilical cord...
I kept seeing these 3 lines and "knew" it was a girl... but the u/s tech kept reassuring me that was the cord vessels.... at the next appointment, it was CLEARLY a boy...
Yep!! Our 16 week elective showed girl for the first 15 minutes...see below
and then right at the end we saw this....
When i asked the OB she said that they shouldn;t have labeled the first one girl because the three lines shouldn't appear swollen. She said the "hamburger" thing really isn't accurate and the lines should be flat not rounded on the outside, which is indicative of baby boy junk lol.
This is probably the main reason why we chose not to have the early elective one. After i started talking to my friends and their experiences, i literally heard 3 stories of the guess being incorrect, just from 16w to 20w.
We wont find out until Feb 3rd................its a long hard wait, but i want it to be right. Even then, the doctors office can still make mistakes, but you have a much better chance of it being correct.
Most techs can distinguish between a cord and genitals though. All 3 of my girls cords have been out of the way and nowhere near between their legs.
Edit: the second ultrasound was at 16w.

My 11 week u/s showed a very definite nub which led the tech to guess boy. However during our NT Scan at 13 weeks, the tech guessed girl. The nub was still very significant but when she zoomed in on the bump she saw what appeared to be girl markings and also stated that she could not see a scrotum anywhere. At our 20 wk, the swollen nub on our little girl had disappeared and there was no mistaking her girl parts.
OP, techs at early u/s places are highly trained and look at genitalia all day long. At 16 weeks, they are going to be able to give you a pretty darn solid guess. Is there still room for error? Yes. Have I heard stories of people finding something different at the 20 wk? Absolutely. After all, nothing is for certain until that baby makes its appearance! BUT I would be pretty confident that you've got a little girl on the way.
