Pregnant after IF

Measuring Behind

I had my 2nd ultrasound last Friday at 5wks3days and we are measuring 1 1/2 days behind but everything looks good so far. I haven't been too concerned about this but we are coming up to our next u/s on Friday and now I am starting to think about this. With my other pregnancies (all m/c) I don't remember how I was measuring but now that I know too much, I can't help but wonder and (over)analyze everything. Has anyone consistently measured a day or two behind in the beginning? What was the outcome?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Measuring Behind

  • Yes...at 6w and 7w I measured 1 day behind and then at 9w I measured 3 days behind (with a different doctor and machine). No one has seemed concerned so I'm not either.

  • I measured 5 days behind at my first u/s at 6w2d. I was fraught with worry for 2 weeks waiting for my next appt. Thankfully my 2nd u/s at 8w3d showed the baby measuring a day ahead! My Dr said (way after the fact) that the machine could be off that early. So I wouldn't worry, especially if you're just measuring a day and a half behind.

  • I am pretty sure the standards they use are jst averages.  Much like ovulation at CD14- the standards just aren't accurate for many people.  I don't think it is anything to worry about.

  • Yep. Each of my babies measured behind. One by 3 days and one by 5. I had IVF so they were obviously put into my uterus at the same time. For a while the doctors told me one implanted a few days later than the other. They freaked me out, made me worry and told me even to prepare for one of my twins to not make it.

Today I had my anatomy scan and they are both measuring EXACTLY the same in CRL and estimated weight. I think that generally speaking (and this is my laymans opinion) that early dating can be inaccurate. Not always, but it's common.

Don't let yourself be too worried. It's SO early. I hope that all is well at your next u/s.  :)

  • Thanks so much ladies! With 5 losses under my belt, I am analyzing everything. I am also over-analyzing that I have very few symptoms. My boobs hurt on and off, always thirsty, and I am tired a lot but that is pretty much it. I just wish that I felt more pregnant...so that way I was assured that everything was fine. I hate this process!!!
  • I think it can also vary depending on who does the measurement and where exactly they click to measure.  I wouldn't worry too much right now.  Especially if the doctor didn't seem worried.  I have my next u/s Friday too - GL!

  • Early on I always measuring 3-4 days behind. My RE said it was nothing to worry about since it can be hard to get an accurate measurement when they're so tiny- she said anything within a week was fine. GL at your ultrasound!

  • At our first ultrasound, both babies were measuring 4 days behind. At our second ultrasound, baby A was measuring 2 days behind and baby B was still 4 days behind, but at least growing proportionately. At our third ultrasound, baby A was 1 day behind and baby B was 2 days behind. I was under the impression you want to be measuring +/- 5 days, and as long as you are within that range, some variation is normal. HTH.

  • I measured almost a week behind until 8 weeks where I measured 2 days behind.  At my NT Scan at 12 weeks I measured 1 day behind.  No problems at all with growth so far.  I think that they say anything between 0-4 days behind or ahead isn't an issue.
