Houston Babies

New to Houston

Hi,

My husband and I will be relocating to the Southside Place area in February.  I am looking for an OBGYN in that area or surrounding areas.  Also any recommendations on hospitals and pediatricians would be greatly appreciated.

I would also like to join any book, exercise, moms-to-be clubs if you would recommend any.  Thanks!

Re: New to Houston

  • You're going to be extremely close to the Med Center, so you'll have a lot of choice. I recommend looking at any of the doctors at OGA on Fannin. I see Dr Ivonne Smith. She is dry as a bone, which makes her a fit for me, but not for everyone. Still, she is very smart and a talented doctor. A lot of people also love Dr Firpo in the same practice. It's a great practice with every resource you can imagine (they are the doctors that founded Texas Woman's Hospital).

I don't know about social groups in West U but I am sure there are some. I would suggest looking on Meetup.org

No problem! Speaking of dry, I just re-read my response and realized I left out any kind of "Hi!" or "Welcome to Houston!" No wonder Dr Smith and I work so well together. LOL!

For pediatricians, there is a big Texas Children's practice on Greenbriar (just google it) that is very popular. We left because we needed something different than the doctor we saw there was offering us, but I know many people who have other pediatricians there they are very happy with. It's right in your neck of the woods.

You're settling in a really beautiful neighborhood. Welcome to Houston!

    Where are you moving from?

  • Hi and welcome!

I also see Dr. Ivonne Smith, for about 9 years now. I love her and ditto everything Rayskit said about her. She delivers at Womens Hospital which is right next door to her practice in the OGA building. My pediatrician is also in the OGA building and she actually recommended him. I LOVE my pedi, they even have Saturday hours, which is really convient for me. Good luck.

  • I am keeping a journal with all this info, very helpful, thanks again! We live in New Orleans and we both are very excited to make the move to Houston.  I am 6 weeks pregnant and will be staying at home so looking for outdoor activities to keep me busy, I checked out the website you sent and it is perfect!

  • I saw Dr Bobo at Women's specialists in the Medical Center. She's fantastic. I got lots of Nestie recommendations for her.

I delivered at St Luke's but I think Women's Specialists is mostly delivering at the new Texas Children's Pavilion for Women now but I'm not sure it's much different? Lots of crossover between TCH and St Luke's in L&D.

I grew up in Southside Place/West U, and it's definitely a lovely area.
