I don't think these are all that common so maybe no one will even know what I am talking about! We have a gas monitor to heat our house. We also have electric heat as a backup but use the gas because it's more cost effective.
The monitor has an option called "Economy Plus" where if you have your heat set at 70- it will overshoot by 12 degrees instead of the normal 6 degrees when not in economy mode. We have never tried the economy mode until this winter and it seems to work better that way but recently with really cold temps around 0, the monitor has been shutting itself off when it gets up to 82. (it's not actually 82 in the house though!)
DH thinks it's because the monitor is working really hard since it's freezing out and is getting too hot and has a safety thing to shut itself off when too hot. It doesn't do this when in the regular mode (which it doesn't get to such a high temp at the normal mode). It's a PITA though because the house stays warmer at the economy mode and the monitor runs less because it's overshooting the temp so much each time it goes through a cycle. I had it on the regular mode today and it just kept running and running because it's so cold out.
I am thinking of just backing it up with the electric heat today since it's so cold out but just wondering if anyone had any insight. I think next winter we are going to look into a new and bigger monitor as I think ours is a little small to heat the whole house properly in the really cold months and it may be shutting itself off because it's just overworking itself right now....
