Train party ideas needed

DS loves trains and will be turning two next month. I thought it would be cute to have a "two-two train" party. Well there is a place near by that you can take real train rides on an historic senic railroad. I just called and the trains don't run until March 20th. I am super bumbed because he would have loved that. DH suggested waiting to have his party till we can do the real train, but I am not sure. What would you do? If we waited we would still celebrate at home on his real birthday.

  • If you didn't want to wait and do the whole party there, maybe you could give him a gift to take a friend or two on the train in March.  That way you could have his party near his actual birthday and then take him on the train.

  • Does he like Thomas the Train? If so, maybe you could do a party theme of that?

My cousin's son loves Thomas the Train and he had that as his second party theme!!

  • I made this for DS's train birthday.  I got a train book from barnes and noble for each kid and a little train car from the dollar spot at Target.  I set up DS's 3 train tracks around the house, and the kids played.  They had a great time.  You could just give him a trip on the actual train for his birthday and take him in March.
  • we are postponing dd's party till later because it is the same week as christmas. Is there another train thing in your town? Amtrack?or restaurant with train theme? Also I was going to suggest, I saw a train cake pan at tj maxx, that was very cute.

Looks a little rough but it was so much fun! ha!

Where in IN are you? We are in IL and there are so many train restaurants around here.  Such as Choo Choos, All Aboard, Choo Choo Jimmy's ect.  I know they have parties there all the time.  Also, in Indianapolis there is a Children's museum that has a train exhibit.  I know our Children's museum host parties.

For our Thomas party we did colorful ballons, a huge thomas ballon, thomas plates and cake.  We did not go crazy, but enough thomas to make it fun.  For party favors we did thomas coloring books, crayons and train whistles.

DS still loves trains, so not sure if we will have another train bday for his 3rd birthday.  :) GL!

  • I would wait to have the party so you can plan it around a train ride.  He won't care that his party is after his actual birthdate.

    Sounds fun!
