Two Under 2

How similar are your two?

My husband and I would like to start TTC again next month when my son turns one.  He has been a dream baby -- STTN, EBF, good tempered, healthy, happy and calm - the only issue we have had is that he takes short naps and eats like food is going out of style.  I thought we were just lucky, until several of my friends who are parents have commented that they feel it is also due to our easy-going, firm but flexible parenting style.  So I am hoping that means our second baby is likely to also be easy-going.  Have you found that to be the case?  Did your two babies have similar behavior traits?

Re: How similar are your two?

  • We thought our DD was a good baby (and she was/is) but DS wins the "good baby" award! My DD is awesome, other than her sleep. She didn't STTN consistenly until 13 months old. My DS is AMAZING! He's so happy, has been STTN for weeks now and barely cries. We are dealing with lots of reflux issues and he's not gaining much weight and we had the NICU issues but he's still easier than my DD was (and she wasn't a bad baby). We were blessed 2xs with good babies, so it is possible! It's also one of many reason why we are done with 2 and won't be tempting fate with 3... Wink

  • I hit the baby lottery twice. They were both easy babies, always happy. They have some differences personality wise though. My first is naturally more independent, but a bit shy around new people and my second loves lots of attention and is a social butterfly.

I disagree with your friends about easygoing parents=easygoing babies. I think it's a combination of temperament and luck. I know people who are laid back who had really difficult babies and people who were really uptight to have happy babies. I also know people who had a first easy baby but the 2nd one was a difficult baby.

This. I don't think that parenting style has much to do with it. DS1 was tough- colic & reflux & a lot of crying. DS2 is so easy & rarely fusses. Same parenting, two different kids.

  • Mine are like night and day in pretty much every way. My daughter is feisty but my son is so easy going. They really interact well together though and they keep my life fun and interesting!
