Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Heating baby food on the go?

I was wondering what you all used to heat baby food jars (and even bottles of formula for that matter) while out and about?

I had been breastfeeding until about 3 weeks ago and will be taking my 11 month old on his first vacation in a few weeks. I am trying to find something to warm up his bottles and food while we are at a restaurant or sightseeing, etc.

I purchased a Munchkin Deluxe Bottle Warmer for use in the car only to find it had awful reviews so I was planning to return it. I was hoping to stay under $30 for whatever I end up buying.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Re: Heating baby food on the go?

  • We don't warm her bottles and her food is only "warmed" to thaw frozen Pur?e's but usually not more then room-ish temp by the time she eats it.

Have you tried giving it to LO at room temp?

  • I typically offer fruit at room temperature but have always warmed up the meat purees. I can try offering it room temperature though.
  • For formula on the go, I have always just made them instantly with a room temperature water bottle. It isn't warm, but LO hasn't really minded that they aren't as warm as at home. A bottle warmer for the car isn't a bad idea if you think you need it. Maybe try to return it after the trip? For foods on the go, I try not to pack something that needs a reheat. I will chop fresh fruit or bring deli meat, cheese, etc. Something that I can either do room temperature or cold.

  • For food, I usually just warm up the food in the microwave prior to leaving the house. Usually when we arrive the food is at the right temperature to serve.

LO is not really picky about temperature and will eat things cold as well.

Ah- we JUST introduced shredded chicken on NYE- her first meat.  That makes sense.

  • We always did room temp water for bottles, it was so much easier than warming bottles.  For food, same as all pp...pack something that doesn't need warmed, such as fruit or DD loves the Gerber Yogurt.  I'm sure at restaurants they could warm baby food up for you if you asked them.
