Two Under 2

Intro - expecting #3 unexpectedly

Hi there. I find it a bit unnerving to be posting on this board, but I just found out I am pregnant with #3. It was definitely not planned. We were still very much debating a third child and what the timing would look like. But the choice was made for us! I have two sons, both October babies. DS1 is 4 and DS2 is 14 months. This one will be due in Aug/Sept. After the initial shock has worn off a bit, we are very excited, but also scared.

I found going from 1 to 2 a breeze and DS2 has been such a good baby. I am trying to prepare myself for what like will be like with three under 5 (and 2 under 2 for a little bit). Suddenly we have to start thinking about the kids sharing a room, minivans, child care, and the expense of it all. Both my husband and I work outside the home full-time. I love my job, and know I will want to keep working, but not sure how I will swing it. DS1 won't start kindergarten for another 18 months+ so daycare will be outrageous.

I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I welcome any wisdom or advice and hope to learn a lot from you all!

  • Things have an odd way of working out. I'm sure you'll find a routine that works. Congratulations!

  • welcome! Sounds like you have alot to organize and work out, so stay positive and all with fall into place. I was scared to put both my boys in a room together, but after I did it, I wouldn't want it any other way, they love waking up to eachother.

Please post updates on your situation!

  • Welcome! Our #3 was very much a surprise too (DD1 will turn 3 just a few days before my due date) and DD2 will be 19.5 months. So I could potentially have 3u3 for a few days.

I loved having 2u2, my first two are 16.5 months apart and it was such a fun spacing. I also had a pretty easy time going from 1 to 2 and have heard almost consistently that 2 to 3 is easier than 1 to 2. We weren't planning on a 3rd quite so soon but I'm looking forward to it now, I think it'll be fun to have them all close in age.

My girls share a room and love it and do great with it and I've had them on a pretty similar schedule from pretty early on (they were napping together by the time DD2 was a few weeks old). You find a new routine and things that work and it just comes together. I plan on just taking it one day at a time, find our groove, etc.

Congrats and welcome to the 2u2 club :-D

  • I had 3u3 for a few weeks and honestly it has been no different than the transition from 1 to 2.  When they are all running around things might be different but so far so good:)  Congrats on #3!

  • We are expecting #3 as well. We weren't trying, but we weren't NOT trying and what do you know... We will have 3, 4 and under. I'm still getting over the shock of it and we are starting to get really excited about this baby. The good thing is, we feel like our family will be complete now (I can finally start giving away all these clothes and baby gear/toys!)

Hmmm, maybe we need a 3 under 5 board? Just kidding;-P
