Mirena Do You Have/Like It?

So I'm going to be getting the Mirena IUD in a couple weeks and I was wondering if any of you ladies have it?  What do you think of it?  How was it when they put it in? Any suggestions?  DH is really worried he's going to feel the strings, have you had any problems?

I'm really excited not to have to worry for 5 years but am a little nervous about having it put in.  I'm kind of a wimp. lol.

What do you think of it? I love mine. This is the second one I have had. I have had no problems with either one.
How was it when they put it in? I won't lie. It hurt like hell the first time. But the doctor told me its because it had been so long since I gave birth my cervix was closed up tight (had been over 3 years.) This time is was uncomfortable for a few seconds when she put the clamp to open my cervix but that was all. It was just a pinch.
Any suggestions?  I would take and ibuprofen or something of the sort for the cramps afterword. It is completely normal to cramp for a few days and spot for up to 3 months after insertion.
DH is really worried he's going to feel the strings, have you had any problems? My DH feels them sometimes, but it's nothing major.

Thanks! That's exactly what I wanted to know.  I don't know why I'm so worried about it.

  • What do you think of it? I like it.

How was it when they put it in? Not painful at all actually.

Any suggestions?  Take Tylenol before you go to help with any pain.

DH is really worried he's going to feel the strings, have you had any problems? Nope.

Thanks! That's all DH has been asking me since I told him I was getting an IUD. lol

  • What do you think of it?  I like it so far, but I have had it for 4 months and the spotting JUST stopped on Friday. Also, your periods will be irregular if you get them at all, so don't freak out about that.

How was it when they put it in? Any suggestions?  Easy, it just felt a little more uncomfortable than getting a pap smear. I didn't have any cramps afterwards

DH is really worried he's going to feel the strings, have you had any problems? DH feels them sometimes and he said they feel like exacto knives poking him. Sorry :-( But he said that 90% of the time he doesn't feel them at all.

I LOVE not having to worry about it for 5 years and not having to remember to take a pill every night. I don't want to be pregnant for at least 3-4 more years, so its great!

  • What do you think of it? I LOVE it.

How was it when they put it in? I got mine 8 weeks pp and didn't feel a thing.

Any suggestions?  Like others said take some tylenol before just incase.

DH is really worried he's going to feel the strings, have you had any problems? DH has never left them during sex, I have to "look" for them when I check to make sure they are still there ;)

    GL!

  • I have it and like it.  It was definitely uncomfortable when they put it in but not as bad as getting my membranes stripped actually. ;)  I did take some ibuprofen ahead of time (their suggestion).    DH has never mentioned the strings, so I have no idea if he feels them or not.  I did spot for ~3 weeks when I first got it in, but now I haven't had a period for months.

  • I've had it since the first week in August and love it!

Insertion was a pinch and then a single, quick cramp. I felt nothing after. I did take either one ibuprofen or naproxen (can't recall) before I left for the office, so about 30 min before the procedure- I would suggest that.

H says he can't feel the strings. They are basically like flexible fishing line, not really stabby at all.
