man...am I the only one with a super early bedtime

The responses to my last post are making me feel like a weirdo for putting LO down so early.

I shoot for 630ish but tonight since he only really had 2 naps and they weren't too too long he fell asleep at 6...and I think I could have put him down earlier he woke up from his last nap at 3 so he was up for a long time

Re: man...am I the only one with a super early bedtime

  • We're usually heading upstairs for last bottle and bath around 6:15.  She's usually in bed by 7 at the latest.

  • I say whatever works for you. Only reason DD goes to bed at 10:30 is because I SAH and DH gets home from work around 11-12 so I go to bed usually around 2ish. If she went to bed too early she would be waking up too soon for me to get much sleep. If I went to be earlier and got up earlier, she would too...
  • Macy is usually asleep by 7... sometimes 6:45 if it's been a rough, poor-napping day.

  • We put her down between 6 and 7. She can't make it much later than that, she comes home from daycare EXHAUSTED.

  • I've heard 6-8 is ideal, but I agree with PP, whatever works for you!

  • I'm with you.  My son is usually asleep by 6:30.  I would love for him to go to bed later but he gets so fussy it's just not worth the fight.

  • DS is asleep a 8 but if he's tired before that he's go down around 7:30.  I also give him a dream feed at 9 so that he'll sleep until 2 or 3 am.
  • Bedtime in our house is between 5 and 6 (at the latest), although he may not fall asleep until 6:30, he's in his crib.  He has to get up at 6, so this ensures that he gets a full 12 hours.
  • hey if it's working for ya, who cares?!?!

On NYE we went to my ILs.  Abbey woke up at 8am didn't nap ALLLLL DAY and only finally fell asleep in the playpen at around 9pm!!!  It was not an easy night when we drove home and she woke up again.

On more normal days she's down by 7:30 but she wakes up late...around 9:30

This exactly. And we're often struggling to keep him awake that last bit. Would *love* to push it back!

Kind of the same here, only DH gets home around 8:30, and if he's later, D stays awake to see him. 9-9:30 works best for us.

  • If she has horrible naps during the day, I don't hesitate to put her down earlier than 7pm.  Tonight she had a bath and in the crib by 630.  If I try to keep her up, it is NOT pleasant for either of us!

  • DH gets in late here too but there is no keeping J up. we shoot for 7 pm. sometimes he's ready around 6:30, sometimes he isn't ready till 7:30. depending on his naps and his cues.

same here. We've found the earlier she goes to bed the later she sleeps. Go figure!

  • Typically DS is in bed by 730 and it's working well for us. Would love to push it closer to 7 if I could and occassionally when I'm home I can get him down that early. But on the 4 days a week that I work it's just not possible so 730 it is.

  • I think it's all just about what works for your baby, family and life.  In our case my husband works late (until at least 10pm), I'm a SAHM and we are all night owls so for our family my LOs late bedtime (11pm) works for us.  She gets to see daddy most nights, she doesn't wake up super early which would kill me (I'm not a morning person at.all.), she isn't cranky at night so the schedule works for her and since I'm a SAHM we sleep late (the absolute earliest she gets up for the day is 9am, but normally it's more like 11am).  Last, we cosleep and she doesn't do any more than nap until I'm in bed with her- though we are working on that last point.

Unless this schedule stops working for Caroline, we plan to stick with it until she starts school and has to get up early.  Then we'll transition to a more "normal" sleeping schedule.

Obviously for a baby going to daycare, morning people and for working parents this wouldn't work for them.

  • DD is usually sleeping anywhere between 6 and 7. Last night though she was down by 5:45pm bc she had only one crappy nap thanks to being out of the house most of the day! You are definitely not alone!

  • DD goes to bed pretty early too, depending on whether or not she takes a third nap during the day. If she only takes 2 naps, she's usually asleep by 6:30 pm. If she takes a third nap, she goes to bed around 7-7:15 pm. It makes it hard to ever have anything planned in the evenings because we try to be home for her bedtime for consistency.

Us too.  I mean, whatever works for you, but I honestly can't imagine having a baby up until 10/11pm.  I'm totally not flaming anyone for their choices, I just can't picture/think babies should be up that late.

All of this, including the cosleeping! DD goes to bed between 10:30-11 pm, wakes at 8:30 am to eat, then goes back to sleep for another 2-3 hours in our bed. I wake up with her. Bilssful sleeping until 11 am. DH and I are not morning people at ALL.

  • DD is usually in bed between 6 and 7.  Sometimes earlier.  Lately she has been having "going to bed" problems though, so it's been more like 8-9pm :(
