Advice on Starter Sippy

Morgan still has quite a bit of difficulty with suck/swallow, but she seems to be hating on bottles lately.  In an effort to keep her from losing more weight I thought I would try a sippy.  Peyton just has the take and toss or cups with straws because of her high tone we always used straw cups when she was younger.

Is their a sippy that's better for preemies to start out with?  I really hate to drop a ton of money and buy 1 of all of them if there is one that has a better chance of working for us.

Thanks so much!

Re: Advice on Starter Sippy

  • I think you'll get a variety of answers on this one. We have tried several:

NUBY-these are our favorites, DD can't figure out how to lift and tilt but if we help her, she does a good job drinking out of them

NUBY straw cup--she does ok with this but it frustrates her pretty quickly. I think the straw is too small compared to the breast or the bottle for her

Playtex straw cup--no luck at all, she pretty much just likes to throw this one off her tray

    Good luck!

  • DS had a lot of problems with suck/swallow, the only cup he would use is the rubbermaid juice boxes, someone suggested it to me because they don't have the valve so its easier to drink from and they are still leak proof. He did great with them and now he drinks from any straw. Around 8 months he wanted nothing to do with the bottle, he dropped it completely in favor of the juice boxes. (with his formula of course)

  • We use munchkin mighty grip training cups. My lo seems to do pretty well with these, he is also a preemie.  Hope this works.  Good luck!!
