Last month. DS pulls up and rest his arms on the top of the crib. He was trying to climb out using the breathable bumpers, so I took them out. I was worried the extra 1/2 inch of height they give all scrunched up would be enough for him to get out. (Even though he probably isn't strong enough, but he can lift his legs up off the crib mattress and it's as low as it goes).
We had no issues. He hasn't gotten anything stuck yet.
Why do you want to remove them now? Most people put bumpers ON at this point.Just curious.
Ours collapses enough that C can't stand on it, so that's not a worry for me. I'm not removing them any time soon, she moves around her crib way too much. I know she'd be tangled in the rails in no time.

The packaging says to remove the breathable bumpers once a baby can sit up by himself. So I have delayed removing them and wondered if this was a statement they make for liability reasons or if there is some solid reason to remove them and others are also removing them for this reason. I truly cannot think of a reason to remove them.
Took ours off about two weeks ago. She can pull up and stand in the crib, so all bumpers aren't recommended to be used once that happens since they can be used as leverage to climb out. Plus, the AAP is now strongly against using any kind of bumper, even a breathable kind. It just seemed like a good time then to take them off. No problems so far with getting limbs stuck.

Huh, interesting. Do you have the Summer Infant ones? I obviously never read the packaging, lol. I bet they say that because sitting up is a prelude to pulling up, and one of the big worries with bumpers is that kids will use them as a step and fall out of the crib. The manufacturers are all super paranoid (with good reason). Still, I'm not concerned about it with the ones we have, they practically slouch by themselves because they're so soft...definitely not step-worthy.
