s/o of cleo's shoe post

I've been meaning to ask and now cleo's post reminded me.  what do you wear for "every day" footwear when it's cold?  I have nicer shoes, and I have boots, and I have sneakers (like wear to the gym ones, not "nice" looking ones) but none of those seem to work for just a quick run-to-the-store type of shoe when it's cold.  What do you wear?  (looking for something that is NOT a boot)

  • I'm curious too, LOL.

I've got snow boots and nicer brown leather boots that I wear with dresses/tights. I've got sneakers. I've got flats (Privos) and sandals (Chacos) that I can slip on in warm weather, but no cold weather equivalent.  Yes, when it's cold I want my whole foot covered! Big Smile

  • Uggs. I have short classics that are super easy to slip on and off-those are my most casual go to winter shoe. I also have tall Uggs that zip up the back and cardy Uggs. I typically wear those  jeans though, so they aren't as casual or easy to slip on and off as quickly. I have 2 pairs of leather boots when I dress nicer. So I guess I pretty much always wear boots of some kind in the winter. If there is not any snow on the ground, I will wear ballet flats with jeans.

  • I wear Uggs (the boots).  But I think they make a lined shoe?

There's the Rylan, and I think it comes in other colors, and the Coquette.

I don't think either would win any style awards (well, IMO) but they would be warm.

I have several pairs of Ugg boots, and I like them a lot.  I wear leggings a lot, so the boots are perfect for slipping on to run to the store in cold weather.  My mom got me these for Christmas, and I <3 them.

I'm sure they don't win any fashion awards either, but they are comfy and warm with some sparkle so they are perfect for me.  :)  I also have a few pairs of the classic talls and two pairs of the sweater Uggs.  I also have a pair of the bailey buttons.  I like those too.  All boots, though.

  • I love boots when it's cold.  My go to pair are black suede booties with no heel that are perfect for everyday.

ETA: Mine are like this, only with a narrower toe

  • If I'm dressed in jeans, I wear cowboy boots in the winter.  I know you said not boots, but that is what I wear in the winter (and some in the summer, too).  I want something with a rugged sole, stands up to the salt/sand/ice/water/snow, has good support, and keeps my foot warm/dry.

  • I usually wear Uggs or riding boots.

If I have quick errands to run, I will usually wear sneakers. I have a couple of pair of pumas that are cute.

  • How many quick trips to the market are you girls taking?!

Here's the thing... in the winter especially, I'm NEVER running out to the market quickly. It's always part of my errand runs in the morning- otherwise, DH is making a pit stop on the way home. So I just don't see the need for "quick errand" shoes. Not to mention, I'm also not really too fond of that whole category of footwear. I just wear my boots (I have about 8 pairs, so plenty of options!) unless it's a nor'easter out there, in which case I'll put on my winter-y snow boots.  (I consider those days fashion failures, though!)

Eh, I suspect that we just have totally different lifestyles, that's all.

While I have tall leather boots that I wear when I want something nicer, they're not something that I'd slip on when I need to be on my feet all day. For example, I'm taking my kids to the Children's Museum today. Boots would KILL my feet after an hour or two of being on my feet. Sneakers would be ideal, but they don't work with my trouser jeans and a nice sweater/blouse. I also don't like to wear my boots when it's wet outside because I don't want them stained. (Maybe I should spray them with something? That might help, I suppose...?)

Also, boots would be totally inappropriate for my job. In all honesty, Crocs are the perfect shoes for me to wear to work but even I have minimal standards, LOL. I make lots of pit stops at the store and run quick errands on my way from from work, so whatever I wear needs to be worthy of wearing in public (ie: not Crocs.) During the day, I'm in and out constantly: dropping the kids off, picking them up, running errands, stopping by dh's work, going out to feed the animals, checking the mail, going to pick something for dinner out of the garden, etc. I basically need something with the functionality of a Croc, the comfort of a sneaker, but nice enough to wear if I'm spending the entire day at a museum where I'll likely run into someone I know. And? Something that won't be ruined if I step in mud or manure and I can comfortably wear while giving an adult a shower, dressing them, bathing them, transferring them from bed to wheelchair, changing their adult diaper, etc.

To me, fashion is secondary to comfort and practicality.

  • I have a pair of high suede Sporto boots for deep snow.

For kicking around I have these Land's End things. Older style, but similar:

I love skechers- I think they are cute but functional and comfy.

so sorry if that came out snarky! I was honestly wondering how many people had lifestyles that necessitated easy-on-easy-off footwear... certainly sounds like you do! And I totally appreciate that not everyone has the same preoccupation with fashion and footwear that I do... I can even see how it may appear a bit vapid to others!

All that said, how about Danskos? I loved them when I went through my "comfort" phase a few years ago! Smile
