Hi Everyone! I have been reading these boards for about 3 weeks now and decided that I should finally introduce myself. First of all your stories are amazing and have really helped me get through some rough days...and your preemie resource blog has been very helpful too!
Dec 7th my husband and I had an appointment with our MFM. We had been referred to him by my OBGYN because our little boy had low fluid. His twin sister has had normal fluid throughout the whole pregnancy. At this appointment the Dr. decided to do an amnisure test just to make sure I hadn't been leaking any fluid. The test came back positive and we were told that we needed to make our way to a hospital 1.5 hours away because our hospital didn't have a NICU. At that time I was 24 weeks 6 days. When we got to the hospital I was hooked up on monitors that I showed I was having contractions every 4-5 minutes so I was started on Magnesium so they could get 2 doses of steriods on board for the babies. I had a horrible experience with Magnesium, they had to increase my dose multiple times and it was causing nausea, vomiting, chest pain, and shortness of breath. It eventually was stopped because I developed fluid on my lungs. They were able to get both doses of steriods in and then my contractions settled down. I was moved off of labor and delivery to an antepartum room and told that I would be on hospital bedrest until I delivered the babies and they would be monitoring their heartrates, my temperature for signs of infection and various other things.
Today I am 28 weeks and 3 days! I am so happy to still be pregnant! Our doctor has told us that the longest they would let us go would be 34 weeks so I'm trying to prepare myself to be a preemie/NICU mom. This definitely wasn't in our plans but we have learned that the saying is true "If you want to hear God laugh tell him your plans"
Any advice to help prepare us? Anyone have any experience with preterm premature rupture of membranes? If yes how long were you pregnant after your water broke? What eventually led to delivery?
Like I said before, Thank you so much already for posting your stories! They have helped so much.

HI! I am sorry you are going thru this, but I am glad to hear things are going so well.
I had pPROM with my twins as well. I ruptured at 20 weeks and was able to hold off until 26 weeks before delivering. The great thing is that MOST cases deliver within 24 hours, so making it past that is a great accomplishment (atleast it was in my book).
I opted to come home on strick bedrest instead of staying inpatient for various reasons. I don't regret my choice, but I realize it is one that not everyone would make.
I spiked a fever and began contracting, at that point Baby A's heartrate was on the fritz with each contraction so it was time.. My OB said it would eventually happen and if I made it to 34/35 weeks he'd deliver then because at that point the risk of infection out weighed all else.
I had pPROM, too. My water broke at 29w1d and I was on hospital bedrest until I delievered at 32w5d. I got the steroid shots, antibiotics and was on mag for 48 hours. I continued to leak fluid the whole time, have episodes of bleeding and contractions throughout the whole time. But, when the time came I went into labor on my own, had a vaginal delivery and DS was born healthy. He never needed help breathing and he spent 3 weeks exactly in the NICU just feeding and growing (with a few brady episodes).
The best piece of a advice is relax the best you can, push fluids and stay positive. Good luck and hopefully that LO keeps cooking!
pPROM here also. My water broke at 32wks 6days but was not contracting. They pumped me full of antibiotics and gave me the steroid shots, but I only lasted until 33wks 2 days until I had him. We were trying for 34 wks but by 33wks 1day LOs heart rate kept having decels on the monitor and then early the next day I started contracting and with the heart rate issues (it was either going low or too high) they decided not to let me labor on my own and went for an urgent c-section.
They sent the placenta off for culture and it had an infection. Like PP above said, thankfully the infection didn't reach LO. He did have to stay in NICU for 8 days (went home on the 9th day) because he needed to be on IV antibiotics as a precaution because of the placental infection.
I realize we were very lucky that he didn't have any major issues and had such a short NICU stay.
I hope that they can keep your LOs baking for as long as possible!
My water broke at 32w3d with my girls. Because I was after 32 weeks, my doctor did not try to stop labor (I still have issues with this). My girls were born about 9 hours later.
NBJenni hangs around on Multiples sometimes. Her water broke at 21ish weeks and she went pretty close to full term. She's got a blog - https://www.thesefour.com/ .
