Cloth Diapering

Toddler leakage

We used fitteds (motherease) and prefolds (with bummis covers) and have had very few problems. Recently he's started leaking through frequently, changing his pants with every diaper change. I have 2.5 theories. Either A) my diapers are getting less absorbant and need to be stripped (I don't technically know how to do this so help me out if you think that's the case). Or B) he's peeing a lot more than he used to, this could just be because he's getting bigger, or possibly because I just had another baby and we're tandem nursing and in these first weeks that has meant that he's nursing a lot more than he was before and therefore eating less. I figure if it's the latter then I can just wait it out and when he goes back to a more toddler normal diet then he won't leak as much. If it's the former then maybe I need to get some more absorbant toddler diapers (or double up prefolds inside fitteds, which I'd hate to do because he's super active).

  • What does the diaper look like when you get leaks? If it is saturated, than you need more absorbency. I would recommend a hemp doubler over an extra PF. If they don't seem really wet, then you may need to strip.
