C-sections

is this normal?

I only bled for 2 weeks after my c section and it completely stopped, no spotting or anything. However now I'm 4 and a half weeks pp and I started spotting this morning. I'm not in any pain or anything so I thought it was weird. Then I thought it could be my period but I'm breastfeeding and I'm not crampy or anything. Thoughts?

Re: is this normal?

  • It's probably not your period since you are bfing and you are only 4 weeks pp. I had bleeding off and on for the first 6 weeks. If I did too much one day I would start bleeding again and then it would stop the next day. I think it is pretty normal.

  • That's exactly what has happened to me and we're about the same amount pp.  All my major bleeding was done by the time I left the hospital, then I spotted off and on for a couple weeks, then nothing and starting last night I was bleeding again.  I'm also breast feeding and was confused as to whether it's my period or not but I'm guessing not since it's lighter than a normal period, but it's still too heavy to just be spotting.

  • It would be totally normal to have more PP bleeding or your period at this point, even if you are BFing.
  • Sounds normal to me, my OB told me I would bleed off and on for about 6 weeks.

  • It could be your period. BF usually delays your period, but it's not 100%. My first period this time wasn't painful at all. I thought, with the lack of pain, that it might have just been break through bleeding, but then she came back again the next month.
