Hi ladies, I'm new to this board and this question has nothing to do with me, but with my niece. My SIL has been telling everyone that her daughter is ahead developmentally. (She's cut 4 teeth, she stands if you put her next to furniture, she scoots a little while placed on her tummy on the floor. They are also telling everyone that the Doc. said she will be walking in the next month) However, I don't see it. From everything that I have seen with other nieces and nephews her baby is just on track. Besides, is there any way that you can tell that you baby is "smarter" then average at this age?
When I asked her for ideas for Christmas for her daughter her exact words were "Well, she's ahead developmentally so I would suggest only educational toys, but more advanced."... Really? That's what prompted me to start researching. I know every mom thinks that their child is special, but I was just floored when she actually put it into words.
Re: 7 month development
Um- my son was pulling himself up on stuff at 6 months, has been army crawling since 5 months and at 7 months runs across the room in his walker- he does only have 1 toot though.
She may be ahead in the tooth department, but I wouldn't say developmentally. She is definitely meeting milestones but that's it.
Ha ha! My DH's cousin is JUST like this! She posts all over facebook that her baby is "advanced" (at 3 months), and always posts questions about whether her baby's developments are "normal" for a baby this age. She totally insinuates that her baby is way ahead of the game. I am tempted to unfriend her because her daily comments drive me nuts!! It's mindboggling and very annoying!
As other posters have said, every mama is proud of their LO and thinks they are perfect, but who says this out loud?? Ugh.
Your SIL's baby sounds totally normal to me. I think she's just over-compensating.
Thank you ladies! And thank you for sharing your little one's milestones! I don't mind celebrating them and they are always something to be proud of, I just didn't think my niece was out of the "norm". So, thank you!
I was rather appalled when she said that to me and was immediately thinking "What makes your LO so special." But refrained.
Thanks again!
