Colton's natural birth story
I'd been having contractions that started Christmas Eve that kept coming & going away along with spotting. Christmas day they were picking up, but I still managed to make it through all our get togethers. That night the contractions kept getting worse & I got no sleep at all. I labored all night on my exercise ball & walking around the house while DH slept. About 5 am I woke him up when my contrax were anywhere from 2-5 min apart. We kept timing them & they were getting longer, but still going from 2-7 min apart. At about 8:30 we decided to head to the hospital.
We got there & they hooked me up to the monitors & the nurse did a cervix check at 9 am. She told me I was at 9 cm already with the bag of waters bulging. I then started freaking out & DH started calling our family to let them know it would be soon.
We were moved to the L & D room, & about 10 am the on call Dr. broke my water. After that the contrax started getting a lot stronger. They gave me an IV for fluids only & had continuous monitoring but could move around to the chair or the ball & that really helped. When checked again my cervix went back down to 7-8 cm from breaking the water. I had to labor back up to a 9 & this was the worst. DH just kept rubbing my back with hot packs, then ice. About 2:00 I started to feel a lot of pressure down there. This is where I really had to concentrate on my breathing & relaxing from my hypnobirthing book.
I got back in bed & was at a 9 1/2 cm. 2:45 was when we started pushing with the nurses. When he started crowning it really wasn't that painful as I thought it would be. The worst was when they told me not to push because the Dr. was delivering in the next room. I said I couldn't not push that my body was doing it on its own. The Dr. finally came back in & I kept pushing. He had to give me an episiotomy & at 3:39 Colton was born. I pushed right through the pain because I wanted to see him so badly. The worst part of it all was when I had to get sutured up. The Dr. was about to start stitching & the nurse had to yell at him to stop, He thought I had an epidural the whole time because I did so well at laboring. He said he never would have guessed I did it med free. Colton was 21 in long & 7 lb 1 oz.
We are so in love with him. Breastfeeding was little tricky to get the hang of, but now I think we have it down. Here's some pics of our little man.
