So, my right boob has been really sore. Tonight, DH gave me a hug and I almost screamed. I felt around and there is a hard, long lump running from my ribcage, to my nipple. It hurts SOOO bad!
Is this a clogged duct? And what can I do to help it?
Sounds like it could be. Apply a warm moist compress and massage the area. Also, do that before nursing or pumping. Check out www.kellymom.com for more treatment info. It also talks about symptoms to watch for in case the duct gets infected and you develop mastitis.

Nurse on the side with the clogged duct first at every feeding until you feel relief. When LO first starts eating they suck harder and this will work out the clog.

sounds like exactly what i get...clogged ducts. I looked into info and called a LLL member and what worked for me was using leftover NB diapers filled with very warm water and keeping it there most of the day...i'd just stick it in my bra tank top and microwave it when it cooled down. The diapers can only be used for so long before the silicone or whatever is inside to hold water, leaks, tho. Also what seemed to work best is laying the baby on the floor and straddling him and feeding him that way...letting gravity work. I felt like an idiot but there are times i'm on the floor with him and he thinks it's time to eat lol. I seem to have an issue with clogged ducts and "blebs" every weekend now...i have no idea why...but if I stay on top of it I can get rid of it in about a day. Also i believe kellymom.com talks about taking lecithin to help prevent them. GL! I know clogged ducts SUCK.
