Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Feeding Therapist?

Anyone had to take their LO to a Feeding Therapist? Pedi is thinking of sending LO to one but will re-evaluate in a month. What do they do?? I am confused because I thought they were still learning to eat food at 13 mos? Pedi thinks LO plays too much with her food....

Re: Feeding Therapist?

  • If it's only an eval it could just be that your pedi wants to rule out any issues.

A feeding therapist will evaluate your child's actual eating.  How they chew, move food around in their mouth, swallow, etc.  They'll gage your child's oral tone and motor skills.  If there is a texture issue they'll note that as well.

Your pedi may be concerned that your LO is still playing with food because it's difficult or uncomfortable to eat it, versus not being interested in it.  The earlier you intervene the easier it is to teach them the right way to do things.

To my boys:  I will love you for you Not for what you have done or what you will become I will love you for you I will give you the love The love that you never knew
