So, I'm all about the BLW- we've let her try lots of stuff and its going pretty well.
Except she's not getting much at all, if anything really.
I know she needs to still be on mostly BM, but with my supply dropping like a stone, I was kind of hoping we could start getting some food in her as well. So the other day I gave her a spoon to hold and fed her some pureed bananas and she loved it.
I don't think daycare will let me do BLW there, so I was thinking of having them feed her a puree at school after her bottle when the other babies are eating their lunches, and I'll do BLW with her at night for dinner.
Thoughts? Ideas? "you are not hurting your baby" statements? Any welcome!
Re: Anyone doing half-BLW?
We are! He gets oatmeal for breakfast, usually a puree for lunch, and then for dinner he gets puree and bites of what we are having. Chunks of bread, bagel, cornbread, potatoes, etc. I feel better knowing that he is getting enough food when I give him the purees, but this way he is also getting the hang of eating "real food"
Aaaaand... you're not hurting your baby
Yup. We always start with 'real' oatmeal that has been through my ninja before adding water and then I usually add some applesauce (all natural with no additives obviously.) At every meal she has something that she is able to feed herself. When we use the spoon I will preload it if is sticky enough to stay on it, or I let her hold it with me to put it in her mouth. It's been going pretty well. I'm with you on the BM supply issue, I asked our pedi about it yesterday. He said keep nursing as often as usual and just up her amounts of real food if she is acting hungry still. He said he would only recommend supplementing with formula if at her next check she hasn't gained anything. We go monthly so that might be different for you. My big deal is quality of her experience in learning about food. As long as she is happy and I am not cramming mush in her mouth that she hates, I am happy too. You aren't hurting your baby unless they aren't eating enough. There, there.
Pretty much the same here. We mostly do purees - he's been on them for 2 months now - but when we eat, he gets some, too.

We are using both methods right now. My DH is terrified of LO choking so he won't try BLW when he is with LO through the day. I do more of the BLW with LO and also give him one meal of puree in the evening. I think it is fine, you aren't hurting LO!
This is my DH as well, so we got one of those mesh feeders. We haven't tried it yet, but I am excited for my DH to have less anxiety and for DS to try more food items.
Absolutely not hurting your baby! We've been doing two meals of purees for almost two months now and my son seems satisfied, so I thought bringing in a finger-food as a third "meal" because he really won't be "eating" most of it.
I feel like "BLW" is the new "CIO" in terms of an acronym that covers a wide scale of things, from very strict, to casual.
