Baby Names

Finally Picked Names!

FI and I have basically been obsessing over names for this kid, esp. since we're finding out what the baby is at the next appointment!

It was easy to pick a girl's name: "Amy Elizabeth".

The boy's name was a bit harder, but I think we might have settled on "Alexander Jerre". Jerre (pronounced "Jerry" )was my late grandfather's name. As much as we liked "Morgan" (also a family name on my side) as a middle name, we couldn't find anything we liked that would go with it.

Thoughts?

  • Alexander is really popular and Amy seems super dated to me. Both are good names, though.

  • I don't like Alexander "Jerry" but I think a MN is the perfect place to honor someone and for that I like it!

  • That's what we thought too- we pretty much searched through both family trees and Jerre was the best we could come up with. Other options were: John (which is fine, but we thought it seemed too plain); Ray (which is out, because no matter what name you pair it with, it sounds hillbillyish to us); Morgan (aforementioned issues); Brennan (out, because three different people in FI's family have it), etc. etc.

FI's only requirement for names was that nobody in either family have the same first name, which is more difficult than you'd think since FI has what seems like about eight billion cousins with names I love that we can't use, and so do I. I agree with you, Sunshine, about the MN :). I don't think if the baby is a boy that he'll ever use it, and I hate the fact that my potential son will never get to meet my grandfather. Personally, it sounds a bit clunky to me, but I love the idea of my son and my grandfather sharing a name, even if it's only a middle one for him.

I have no idea where we came up with "Amy". I think because it means friend, and we were friends for about seven years before we ever got together... but the "Elizabeth" is a name that I share with a lot of women in my family.

  • My best friend from High school was named Amy Elizabeth and she really liked her name and the jane austen/ period name. It has a very nice ring to it.

  • I like the names. I agree that the name Amy could maybe seem a bit dated,  but it is a nice name and I wonder if the show Up All Night will bring the name Amy back.
