4 month adjusted NICU follow-up

What did your NICU look for? Ours gave us the following list:

Motor Skills:

- develops head control in all positions including while on tummy

- arms move freely to clasp hands and bring to mouth

- reaches and grasps object with either hand while lying on back

- eyes work together to fix on objects and to follow movement

Cognitive and Language Skills

- smiles, watches intently and recognizes familiar people and toys

- attends to voice and turns to voice and sound

- begins to imitate simple sounds (aaahh, oooh) in vocal play with adults

Personal-Social Skills

- begins regular sleeping and feeding patterns

- starts to sooth self (sucks on soother or hands)

- begins to expect parent to hold, to be fed, and changed

Concerns

- hands are still fisted and does not reach and bat objects

- rolls using thrusting movement of head

- does not fix on faces or objects and does not follow their movement

- does not respond to loud noises or try to imitate sounds
