Baby Names

Love name but from kid's favorite movie...

Completely stuck on a girl name.  DD #1 is named Vivian and DH's favorite candidate for DD #2 is Evelyn.  I like it but feel it's too close to Vivian.  DH is stuck on it because we both love "Eva" for a nickname but then again, DD is completely engrossed with watching Wall-E and I don't want people to think we named our daughter after a character in DD's favorite movie.  Egh.  If we were having a boy I'd consider it like naming him Wally.

Is Evelyn still acceptable?  In the long run, it would be fine but I'm not sold.  I'm leaning towards Roselyn.

Sib sets:

Vivian and Evelyn?

Vivian and Roselyn?

Re: Love name but from kid's favorite movie...

  • I think they are both good choices but prefer Roselyn
  • I think Evelyn is still acceptable, along with Eve and Eva. Unless you go around saying we named our kid after the movie Wall-e no one will question it. Now if  you were considering Ariel, Rapunzel or Mulan I think people may question those choices.

I like Evelyn better. I think it fits better with Vivian with the "v" in both. I always am unsure of pronunciation with Roselyn (Roz-lyn Rose-lyn) - Evelyn also looks more classic and timeless with Vivian.

  • Agreed, no one is going to make the Wall-E connection unless you or your daughter point it out. "Eve," a very close variant, is a pretty old name :)

  • If I heard the (nick)name Eva or Eve I wouldn't think for a second, "Oh, they must have gotten that from Wall-E." Besides, you know how fast kids' preferences change. It might be your DD's favorite movie now, but probably won't be for that much longer. So I wouldn't let that stop you from naming your DD Evelyn if you both love it.
That said, it just doesn't seem like you love the name. So maybe you should look for others. I do like Evelyn more than Roslyn, It just sounds softer and more feminine to me, and I like it with your DD's name. But Roslyn is nice, too.
  • I do think Vivian and Evelyn are kind of "matchy." I would think twins before I ever thought you named one of your kids after Wall-E, even if I knew it was your daughter's favorite movie.

What about Rosalind? I think Vivian and Rosalind are very nice together.

  • I have not heard anyone using Eva as a short version of Evelyn.

Eve or Evey for Evelyn.  And Eva is usually used as a nn for Evangeline.

Why not just name your daughter Eva?  So what if your first DD likes the movie so much now.  Next year there will probably be a new favorite.

  • My husband and I love the name Eva, too.  But every time I brought it up he would say "Eee-vah!" like little Wall-e does in the movie.  Funny thing is, we're naming our boy twin Walter...

I like both Evelyn and Roselyn, sorry...I'm not much of a help.

  • I do feel that Vivian and Evelyn are quite matchy but not enough for me to side-eye it. I prefer Evelyn but I feel that Rosalyn sounds better. Rosalie was on my short list for a little different twist. Good Luck.

  • I think you're seriously overestimating the number of people who know/care about the names of characters in your DD's favorite movie. Only parents pay that much attention to their kids

LOL!  I think my post overstated the Wall-E bit.  I'm actually more concerned about the matchy sounding names.  The Wall-E stuff is on the brain because it's demanded day after day and the way DD say's "Eeee-vah" is so darn cute.  Hard for me to disassociate.

  • I love Eva! I say go for it.

  • I really like Roselyn. I don't know any in real life. Roselyn Eva could be a nice combination :)
