Ok ladies, one of my goals for 2012 is to convert our ? finished basement into a playroom for my DH and LO. The idea is to move all of the video game stuff down there as well as J?s bigger toys. (and the treadmill DH took from a friend? don?t get me started?)
right now i'm just looking to paint and decorate what's already there. eventually i'd love to gut and redo it.
It?s a basement with overhead lighting so it?s pretty dark. The room isn?t? huge but big enough to house all of this. I?d like to keep the walls neutral (incase we have a girl later, we can change up wall decals ect..) DH is a HUGE comic book fan, so I thought it would be fun to do a super hero theme. But I can?t find a starting point. Any suggestions for wall colors? We are not a white wall family. My TV room is tropical blue, my dining room has an orange wall with 3 yellow walls?
Re: decore advice
Not sure about color.... But I will say, if you have poor lighting, you might consider getting some mirrors to put down there. My mom did that to brighten up her bathroom.
I'm like you, I've got a orange room, a teal room, a bright yellow room, and a pale blue room. I was going to suggest a bright yellow for the room if you want to go with some kind of super-hero theme. We had a room that was painted red and it was really dark in that room....when I painted it yellow, I kept walking in there wondering who turned on the light, but it was just the sun coming in lighting up the room!
We used Lighthouse Landing and Winter Wheat (both neutral tan colors) in our living room, dining room, and kitchen. Both are great neutral colors. They're very similar in fact, ones just a little darker than the other. I highly recommend them. I think they brighten up the rooms as well.
ETA: those are Benjamin Moore colors.
LOs bedroom is a Superman room. His walls are painted "deep space blue" (which is not neutral by any standards) with yellow and red stripes as a border. We have a giant Superman fathead decal on the wall. His curtains are red, blue, beige gingham.
I think the decal would look just as nice over a yellow or paler blue wall if you go with a superhero theme.
I can't remember if you and I are FB friends or not (I'm Jillian Rose), but I think I have pics of his room on there. I don't know how to post a pic from my iphone.
Edited to fix spelling.
I saw a comic book themed nursery on pinterest and it is AWESOME. DH and I aren't even into comic books and I would totally recreate this room if we have another little boy down the road.
It looks like the walls are a light blue which is pretty neutral in my opinion.
Here's the link!
wow this is so cool! i'm not big on the white walls but i could do lost of primary color pops... thanks!
Yeah, you're right. The walls do look white now that I looked at it again. I would do a very very light blue for the wall color since there is so much other color going on in the room accents (paintings, curtains, blankets, etc.) I really really love that room! Makes me want to redo DS's room, but DH would kill me hahaha!
PBK has a whole super hero line. i'm actually warming up to the white walls since there is no natural light. and it would be easy to change over if we need to (and move art work into j's room if we want to do a super hero room
DH just finished our basement so we could make a cool playroom for him and Keaton. I still can't decide on a theme or colours but I LOVE this superhero theme and so does DH, I may have to steal the idea
ooh please post pics when you're done! DH just approved but said "it needs to be all DC characters"... what ever, just get the comic books out of my spare bedroom lol!
