Question about feeding position

I've been EBF since DD was born, with the occasional bottle of BM given by DH.  Recently though, DD is refusing the bottle and will only drink if she is lying down.  I'm guessing that she's used to feeding that way since I cradle hold her when I BF.  Has anyone else encountered this problem with their breastfed babies?  I'm concerned that she will choke if she drinks from a bottle lying down, but she doesn't seem to have a problem with that.

Re: Question about feeding position

  • Those LO's do make things tricky sometimes.  My LO refuses to eat unless she is sitting upright and able to look all over the room.  We discovered the other day she will hold her bottle and gnaw at it if she is laying down and it is close to her.  Try some different positions and see if that helps.  GL!

  • When DS was an infant DH always held him in the cradle hold to give him a bottle, just like I did when nursing.

  • You can put the bottle in your armpit to simulate nursing, keeping the baby in cradle or cross cradle.  It's recommended, anyhow, so that your baby doesn't learn to differentiate.
