If I picked up something like a sticky sugar topped bagel I would give it a wipe with the dishcloth, but it probably wouldn't get run through the dishwasher more than twice a month.

It would not be worth using to me if I had to wash it after every use. I'd rather just burn my fingers.
Like PP said, if it was used for something that would actually stick to it like something sweet or buttery, then I'd wash that off. But dry toast? Nah, I'd just brush off any crumbs and move on.
Oh wait, yes it would. With a clorox wipe. God I love those things. And that's what I use to wipe my toaster down with (and counters) so when I was wiping the toaster, I would wipe the tongs.
And yes, you would then be using tongs that were wiped with bleach to grab your toast.

lol! Funny you should post about those. I consider them such an indulgence (because seriously - I'm toofucking lazy to wash a cloth out?) but lately I've been 'letting' myself use them and they are SO handy.

FYI - once you wipe the counter once with that cloth, IMO, it's then dirty. Wipes are disposable. It's not about being lazy. I replace my sponge for dishes more often than a normal person should (I think) and if I had my way, I'd replace it every other day. I force myself not to though. Those wipes are a savior! I use about 10 a day. LOL
Well I'd wipe down a counter with a cloth (or sponge really) and then wash it out and leave it by the sink to reuse, yk?
I feel like they are an indulgence b/c they are wasteful - more stuff for the landfil. But I mean I use them for sure. I lurve them.
I consider them an indulgence too bc of the cost and the waste. The latter has been slightly mitigated with switching to greenworks bc they're biodegradable but I am still really cheap about them. We have a ton of counter rags for this reason.
And unless you are using scalding hot water to rinse that sponge/cloth, it's still dirty.
probably. but I am the opposite of a germaphobe!
I've read that you can stick your sponges in the dishwasher to disinfect them. I've done that and it does seem to make them cleaner, smell better, and last longer.

you can run your sponges through the dishwasher OR 2 minutes in the microwave and 99.8% of bacteria is dead. K microwave my sponges every night while I'm cleaning up the kitchen. Sadly it's like a little game for me, how much can I accomplish in 2 minutes.
I run my dishwasher every night and the thought never even occurred to me. Brilliant! I will now be adding my sponge to the dishwasher.
And cbidts, I have competitions like that with myself all the time! How fast can I unload/load dishwasher, wipe down counters/sink/appliances, and switch/fold laundry. It's sick - but fun!

I'd probably rinse the tongs really quickly and call it good.
And in my house, a rag for washing dishes or wiping tables (any sort of cleaning, really) are used one time then immediately tossed in the wash pile. Washcloths that are used on kids' faces are one time use only as well. Kitchen sponge is put into the dishwasher after each use (I have several sponges in rotation at any given time.)
I put my sponges in the dishwasher all the time. Once a week probably. Though lately, I've been using a mr clean magic eraser to clean the counters. Seems less wasteful than using a sponge and a cleaner.

I'm the least green person I know!
I use paper plates too. Often.
