I want to start exercising. I exercised almost everyday pre-pregnancy (Weights, Zumba, Pilates, walking/jogging, etc.). The day after a hit 5 wks pg the m/s hit hard. I was practically bedridden due to how sick I got and couldn't even go to work anymore (let alone workout). I've only really been able to just start being up and around for the past week or so (once I hit 14 1/2 - 15 wks pg), and I still have to sit/lay down often. Still having some m/s issues, but nothing like what I was going through before.
Anyway, I want to start doing Yoga or something else that would be low impact, to get me started up again. I know I'm not anywhere near being in the kind of shape I was in before. My main concern, is that I'm constantly short of breath. I cannot talk to my DH, while walking across the living room, without feeling like I can't catch my breath. I even tried reading to my DS during our storytime (DH has been doing it since I've been sick) the other night and had to stop and hand the book to DH because I was so out of breath, I couldn't talk anymore.
Due to this, I'm concerned I won't be able to even make it through a Yoga class or anything, because I won't be able to breathe. Has anyone gone through something like this before? Any ideas on what I should/can do to get through it? I would really like to workout again.
Thanks
Re: Shortness of breath...
I would talk to your doctor and if you get clearance, then start with a prenatal yoga dvd at home, with someone with you. If you're carrying really high, then exercise can be really difficult.
I have found that when I'm exercising and get out of breath, then I need to slow down for a little while, but I don't actually stop. If I'm doing 30 minutes of cardio, then this usually happens around 10 minutes, and then I can keep going. It's as if my lungs need a longer "warm up" than the rest of me. I think that started around 25 weeks or so. But this is just me, obviously.
I don't want to scare you, but talk to your doctor. I had major breathing problems during my 2nd pregnancy. 6 days after delivering a healthy baby boy, the breathing worsened. I had a CT scan and there was a 15cm tumor on my lungs. It was stage 3 hodgkins lymphoma. Obviously this is a rare case, but you want to make sure your doctor knows!
